I use to suck at the wi remote nunchuck because I was so use to the gamecube controller but now I'm better than with the gamecube controller and its a lot easier to hold on to the wii remote and nunchuck
GameCube controller. I brought myself to being excellent with the GameCube controller, and it's not going to change anytime soon.(I keep getting confused and forgetting it's the Z button when trying to jump with the Wiimote & Nunchuk...)

Yeah that was a bit annoying when I first started using the Wiimote and Nunchuk, but I use some customized controls so it feels a lot better now.
I use the GameCube controller, but I can use the classic controller in a pinch. I have to change the button configuration a lot for the classic controller, though. I use B to attack and Y for special attacks, and I use A to jump.
I used to only use the Gamecube controller partly just to stick to tradition but one day I was curious of what the sideways Wii remote would be like so I tried it. I've been hooked on that single control scheme ever since. The trophy shooting mode is also easier because you use the +Control Pad instead of the joystick.
Wiimote turned sideways. I tried the Gamecube controller for a couple of days to see what the fuzz was about, but I ended up going back to the Wiimote.
