okay so i purchased CW for the DS on eBay from like Hong Kong, and now it's here and it's jacked up or something. First of all, it's rated E, has no Nintendo Wi-fi logo (im pretty sure the original does. And i'm reading the back and it says stuff about E3 and "hands-on-playtest" So did i just get a conterfeit or did i get the wrong kind of copy, this wasnt even mentioned. either way im leaving negative feedback and warning everyone not to buy, im not even going to play it i might be able to return but i really don't know this is stupid

Take a picture and post it here. Make sure to go back and read the auction listing to see if they listed it wrong, or if it was misleading. Also, make sure to report them to ebay if you believe you got a bootleg copy. As far as buying games on ebay, here are some tips for you. 1. If you are buying an 'english' speaking game(ex. GTA Chinatown Wars) from a country that doesn't have English as their first language (ex. Hong Kong, China) then it should immediately raise a red flag. Games translated to english will not be sold in other countries if english isn't their first language. Can they import them? Sure. Would you think they'd import them and spend money on shipping costs, just to turn around and sell a legit copy back to someone in another country for cheap? Not a chance. 2. Don't buy a game with a stock photo. If you are curious you can always email the seller to ask them to post a photo. If they refuse or don't answer you then they either don't care or are selling something they shouldn't be. We live in a world now full of cameras. Digital cameras, key-chain cameras, cellphone cameras, and even cameras on video game systems. There is NO reason they shouldn't be able to post a picture, especially when someone asks. If they don't, they don't deserve your money. (make sure to compare any photos they give you to others online) 3. Ask questions if you are unsure. Any seller worth dealing with on ebay will communicate and answer ALL questions clearly. 4. Read their feedback. If they happen to have negative or neutral feedback, go through their feedback profile until you find them and read them. Don't just skim through feedback. 5. If they price seems too good to be true it probably is. This is just common sense.

it's called saving money, i've saved a lot by buying video games and other items.. i know i shouldnt have believed the ridiculously low price, but i saw so many auctions of it and all of the people had decent feedback. here is an example of a GTA CW auction from eBay, they all pretty much look like this http://cgi.ebay.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-Chinatown-Wars-DS-for-Nintendo-DS-Game_W0QQitemZ170314131938QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games_Accessories?hash=item170314131938&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 or the one i purchased looked more liek this http://cgi.ebay.com/Nintendo-DS-Game-Grand-Theft-Auto-Chinatown-Wars-GTA_W0QQitemZ270360960936QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games_Games?hash=item270360960936&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 Also i noticed some of the stock photos show the "M" rating and wi-fi, and others just show the "E" and there's no wi-fi logo, like the 1 i got, and actually they sent me 2... which i havnt bothered opening them and playing them because i don't know what the hell will happen and it's probably not even the game. nothing says that it's not the actual game or anything. i know i am stupid for doing this but so are the probably 100+ other people who have from all these combined "Hong Kong" auctions. I doubt everyone else got this version, because i saw a few positives from the same auction already, so idk. Learned by lesson, Hong Kong = bad, it was only $14 because i had a coupon... no big deal. but should i whatever i got out anyways just to see what it is? or can it posible jack up my DS...?

Before you leave feedback contact the seller and see what he says. Make it clear you know it's fake. Bootleg sellers want to avoid drama and it's possible he'll offer a refund. Don't be tempted to accept a partial refund and keep the game. You'd just be in for heartbreak when you're 30 hours into the game and it corrupts your save file.

In any case, if you paid with PayPal you can very likely get your money back. Log into your PayPal account and find the Resolution Center. You can open a dispute there. If the seller refuses to cooperate you can escalate the dispute to a claim. If you win the dispute, which you almost certainly will, PayPal will refund the purchase price + shipping; the catch is you'll probably have to return the game to Hong Kong at your expense.

If you have any questions post 'em here or PM me. I just went through this exact process with a bootleg DS game I got from a US seller.

ok here's the thing, i left negative feedback right away, but i got a message from them (in horrible english), and they are offering a refund if i change my feedback, which i don't even think that's possible lol. so can i still try out this resolution thing? i really don't want to go through so much trouble for $14 but still.

oh well i've made enough mistakes on eBay, i'll be back tomorrow but feel free to respond or PM me... i probably shouldn't have asked them "what exactly this is that they sent me" but i doubt they will respond now or they'll just give me a very vague answer.

As long as it hasn't been more than 45 days since you paid you can still open a claim. Feedback has nothing to do with that process. If you win a claim, and you would, you would get the $14 plus whatever you paid for shipping refunded. But, you'll have to send the game back with delivery confirmation at your expense, so you need to figure out if it's worth it to you. I'd do it on principle.

It is possible to change the feedback, though you should think long and hard before doing so. I think a negative is well deserved in this case. Whatever you do, don't trust him. If you choose to accept his offer don't revise the feedback before getting a full refund.

Hey, I got the same game you did. Was purchased on eBay but from a seller from Canada. When I received the game, address was from Hong Kong. The printing of the cover is a bit off, has the rating of "E" for everyone, but the cart has "M" for mature. The manual is 25 pages of a review of game play and the back of the box is another review of the game. The game cart is made of cheap plastic, and warped and it damaged my DS. The game case isn't black, but rather a clear rather thick case.

You have got to be kidding. Who does that and expects to not get scammed? Why didn't you just buy it from a reputable retailer?

In all irony aside, it's does sound like you got played. I strongly suggest that you request a refund before it's too late, if possible.

...that's why I always go to stores, I can at least look at what I'm buying.. If I did buy imports online I'd go to places I trust-there is one shop but I can't say it...gamespot modded me for it last time :( ANyways get your refund but don't change your reply-you need to stop others that may not notice it's a fake!

I instinctively avoid Hong Kong sellers on ebay like the plague. However, I recently purchased Advance Wars 2 CIB from a seller in the states, and when it arrived I saw very quickly that it was a fake (a pretty good one, but a fake none-the-less). I sat on it for a couple weeks before sending the seller a message telling him that I knew the game was a bootleg and that I was going to leave him negative feedback if he didn't do something about it. Another week or so went by with no response, so I made good on my promise. The next day he contacted me and offered me a refund if I removed the feedback. I agreed, and now I'm waiting to see how this pans out. Even if I wanted to remove the feedback (which I don't), I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to.

Again, if you paid with PayPal you have 45 days to file a dispute with them. Don't let the seller stall you past this deadline.

I'm aware of what my options were, thanks. But if I went through Paypal, I'd have to pay out of pocket to ship the game back to him, so I'd still end up screwed over. At least this way I essentially "win" either way.
