^It's a two-fold answer, and that's the first fold. The Wii has been nothing short of a goldmine to one of gaming's long running and most approachable genres. The system has had retro revivial of the majority of the genre's major players, and it has managed to make both 2D and 3D platfomers reach new levels. The commercial success of these games haven't been shabby, either.
The second fold really doesn't revolve around a singular genre at all, though (which kinda makes me wonder why I'm adding this, but I think it's worth noticing). The Wii has played a major part in simplicity in gaming become relevant and appealing again, and that's what has helped the likes of the platformer genre on the system. It may seem strange to credit games like Wii Sports and Wii Play in a topic like this, but without those games, I don't think many developers would have been comfortable in trying to make games more accessible and catered towards less experienced gamers. As a result, I don't think games like New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Kirby's Epic Yarn, just to name a couple, would have had the same impact on the Wii had it followed the more conventional path of increased complexity and challenge that comes with each new gen.
So yeah... there's my response. :)
