[QUOTE="alpax"]I prefer 2D environments with 3D characters or special effects. The New Super Mario Bros is a good prototype.
3D environments give me motion sickness quite easily.
Duckman5
I agree with this.
2d games are a lot less forced than 3d ones. 2d are more "video game"-ish, and I imagine that the only reason 3d gaming is persued so aggressively is because it looks really nice. That is a real positive, admittedly, and there are still a lot of great 3d gaming experiences. Ultimately, however, 2d marginally better. Are strategy games even posible in 3d? Isn't any game involving planning hampered by 3d (especially when cameras are involved)? GunSmith1_basicJust to answer your question - the best example of 3D in strat games is Homeworld, but it is also utilized in the Total War series (height in terrain dramatically affects gameplay) and more subtlely in mainstream strat games like Supreme Commander (to calculate firing trajectories).

Yes but I do agree with him on some notes. Why hasn't there been a GOOD 3D Castlevania game yet? Same with Sonic? *though I think he should work just as good in 3D as in 2D* How about a 3D Street Fighter? Just like 2D can't do 3D's interactivity, 3D can't do that fast past yet relaxing control of 2D. The closes thing 3D can get, is to put a targeting icon.
Interesting topic. The 3D games seem to only get better (interactive environments, graphics, physics), but the 2D games give me a nostalgia feel. I voted equal._DevastatorNot true, 2D evolves along with 3D, it's just that they aren't produced more. Take the handhelds for example. Look how much RPG's and platformers have evolved.
