What's the point of a game with good graphics but the gameplay stinks? No one would buy it. Everyone would rather have a fun game than a game that's boring but has good graphics. Watermelon4372
Tell that to a PS3 fanboy. Oh snap!
....I hate myself for that....eh, not really.
Purpose of playing games for most people is to have fun ... weird poll... but why not both?Candy-Star
Yeah, I prefer to have both actually.... Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime3 have both. Why can't all Wii games have both?? Most 360 games have both... Lol, you know what the craziest word is???... "both" Just keep saying it over and over... It keeps getting more and more crazy.. aahh!

Uncharted doesn;t
Heavenly sowrd doesn't exist
Ratchet doesn't exist
Warhawk, ninja gaiden, , well you get the idea
This poll makes no sense. Which do you prefer, controls or fun? music or fun? You're comparing a means to an end
Graphics are one of several 'means' used by game developers, and of course, fun is the 'end'
[QUOTE="presto7640"]well said... I also liked your pancake remark in the graphics thread...You're comparing a means to an end

Thanks. Pancakes have been sounding good all day :)
gameplay is always paramount, without it there really isn't any fun.
But graphics can really add alot to the experience of the game, which in turn leads to more fun. So ideally, we want a combination of both. And there is more to graphics than mere polygon horsepower, artistic style means just as much.

I think the TC is implying that the Wii is less powerful yet, it offers a more versatile experience in comparison to the other platforms.
And when it comes down to it, its all about fun. The old saying goes "you can't play graphics" and that's the point.
Take Mario Party for example. Yeah, the iterations are getting quite repetitive but you sit there with 3 of your buddies and just go through a whole game, and its stupidly fun. No high polygon counts, no shaders, no bump mapping.
Fun games are what the Wii is basing itself on, and I have to agree with it.
Yea the gameplay fun is very important, but when the graphics are better, its just more fun and more cool!
Xbox 360 and PS3 have graphics and gameplay, Wii has only the gameplay.
If you ask me, the gameplay of the xbox and the ps3 are even better than the Wii gameplay.
The wii is ``supposed`` to have an exceptionnal gameplay, but the xbox and ps3 games are funner!

I hope you're just saying that in order to make fun of PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 fans because I refuse to concede to the fact that anyone could be idiotic enough to say that and still have the ability to type.

why do you refuse it? are you mad that his opinion differs from yours?
if you do look review wise, 360 does indded beat wii by a mile.
anyway, let's not turn this into system wars
I don't think high toned graphics and fun are mutually exclusive, as the TC seems to suggest. Obviously the entire point of playing video games for the vast majority of people is having fun (exceptions being people who play games as a job/career, in their case "fun" is secondary to the work they're being paid for).
"Fun" is whatever you as an individual make of it. The problem comes when people get confused and think their own subjective opinion is actually objective fact. Sure I like good graphics, but they're not a deal breaker for me unless they have a direct negative impact on gameplay. I'm 36 and my first console was when my parents bought a Mattel Intellivision for Christmas in 1980. I've been through the glory days of arcade gaming, at one time had a blurb in Electronic Games magazine about me for having a single Asteroids game last 16 hours, went through the Commodore 64, then Apple IIc, then the evolution of PCs with CGA, VGA (skipped EGA), and beyond graphics. Played the original NES to death, then the Sega Genesis. Stuck with PC games after that until the Wii came along.
My point? I've been from the dark ages of video games to the present, and the road in between. The common thread all along the way has been the quality of the gameplay. Every new generation of gaming platforms brings a level of graphics that wows people at the time, only to be far surpassed a few years later. There is nothing wrong with wanting state of the art graphics, but you're never going to be satisfied with your gaming experience if that's a big emphasis to you in what makes a game good. Keep some perspective, and remember that for all of these system wars debates over graphics and processing power, when you look back 20 years from now you'll laugh at how quaint and "crappy" the graphics of today are on even the most high end systems.
