I don't think they'll be able to capture the greatness of the DKC games ever again. A new game would most likely just be some sort of IP cash-in and would feel nothing like the previous titles. I'm fine playing the originals though.
No gimmicks, just 2-D platforming. Also, they've made the DK characters more cartoony and dumbed down in recent games. I understand they're not supposed to be "smart," but there was a certain edge to the characters in DKC, like they at least had confidence or something. Everything's just less imaginative.
If the game was built like one of the Country games or DK64, I'd come back to the series. In fact, the last Donkey Kong game I played was on the 64; I just don't do the bongos!
