Do you need to be a Pokemon fan to answer? I'm not, so I'd choose Mario Bros. Looks like a great platformer.

Pokemon just because of the length.

You really should get both.

New Super Mario Bros. It doesn't have to be short, set goals for yourself such as mastering every level (getting every coin in one go or challenging yourself with speed and power ups).

They are not the same... Super mario Bros is just for fun. I like it. But I like Pokemon Platinum much more because u can create your own "carreer". Also, u can play competitively with your friends and other ppl. Take Pokemon Platinum. U won't regret it, believe me...

both get boring in the end. if you like to "personalize" and make collections with a long story pick pokemon. If you just wanna have challenging, decent fun, get MARIO.

I find the Mario games really boring and pointless.

At least in Pokemon, there's online competition. Get Pokemon.

Tell us more. What DS games have you played in the past (and liked or disliked)? If you've played Pearl/Diamond then don't bother with Platinum. Get New Super Mario Bros. If you have yet to play Pearl or Diamond, then maybe Platinum is the best choice.

Hope you realize you're paying nearly full price for a game that can be completed in probably less than an hour.

I doubt that you can master every level to the point of getting every single coin in a run-through in under an hour.

You don't need to master every level to complete the game, you just need to be able to get through them once. And there's no point in playing them again after you've been through once.

Of course there's a point on playing it again. There are some hidden levels to unlock as well as all the star coins to collect. Beating it at 100% is a hard task that I managed to complete and it really takes time.

Both great games, you should get both.

If you had to pick it comes down to if you like platormers or turn-based RPGs

I didn't say you needed to master it to "beat it." I think you meant say there's no point for you to play it again. I don't feel like you should be giving advice on a game you didn't spend much time with : /

Your really doing yourself a disservice if you buy one and not the other, both are such great games.

I would normally go with the RPG, but New Super Mario Bros. is just so awesome. Loads of fun. So much fun you'll dream about Mario the first couple of nights you play. It's that great.

Both a great games that you should get, unless you are limited on money. New Super Mario Bros is a quick, fun game that can be fun to play when you are bored. There are no goals to set in the game, except the "get everything" one, so you may find the game to be boring when you are done. Platinum is a great game with a good story with great replay value, however, like most RPG's it is repetitive. Also, you don't have to be a fan of the series to play these games.

Please use the game recommendation sticky for "which game should I get" sorts of questions.
