For me, honestly, Zelda.
Not because of -my- experience with it, but because of my friend's reaction when he came over to play. He had doubts about the wiimote and nunchuk at first, but when he actually got to play, he started swinging the wiimote a lot.
I kept saying "Ya know, you really only have to flick it..." and he'd reply "Shut up, I want to swing it"
RE4 the controls translated amazingly well, though I preferred Zelda TP overall, it just didnt use the Wii to its advantage enough.
Note: What the hell was with the sniping in RE4, Analogue aim? WTF!!
I didn't have any doubts from the start, I always saw it as an alternative to what we have now and hopefully a progression. The likes of Wii Sports did great. WarioWare did fantastic and it all just starts to unfold!!
Besides, when using the Nunchuck and the Wii-mote (accept for when you have the aim at the screen) you can relax with it better that a standard pad because my hands can be far apart, rather than both having to be together on a pad (I'm not knocking standard pads, I still love them, just love the fact you can do that with the Wiimote and nunchuck).
wii sports... I just played that game and thought... my word the boxing in this would be brilliant for a lot of games
I never thought the Wii was a gimmick, but I haven't bought a new Nintendo system since the SNES because I knew third party support would be horrible. The Zelda: TP demo, I played when the system released, confirmed that Nintendo had made a strong return, but when I played my best friend's RE4....
3 days later, I hunted down the last Wii in my city because I knew that it would be impossible to find one after Metroid Prime 3 is released. FYI, I was trying to wait to purchase a newer TV for my Wii but had to scratch that idea. And, the same best friend that has RE4 on Wii has it for Gamecube. I loved the Gamecube version, but its Wii brother made me buy a Wii of my own to play. And honestly, I've only played it twice in the 12 days I've owned it. Why? I realized that I live 5 minutes away from a Blockbuster. So, I rented Super Paper Mario, Rayman, and Madden 07 (preparing for 08). This system is amazing.
Mario Galaxy will be game of the year! I'm claiming it for them. MP3 will have the most influence (raising the bar for FPS games on Wii = "hardcore" gamers rejoice) But, forget GTA:IV and HALO 3. Those will be good games, but I say give it to the best game on the best system.
Well, I'd say Wii sports really, since it made the game feel normal and fun. But Warioware had some really interesting ways on using the remote, and at that point I realized that they can do so much with this system. Then I tried the Godfather, and you can point and shoot your gun, AND punch and strangle by swinging the remote and nunchuck... right there the realism to the game just became clear, and I understand why manhunt 2 was banned, but this system can't be a gimmick if it simulates realism. I would like to see a warioware translation for say xbox, it just plain can't be done.
This system definately isn't a gimmick and I erally can't wait for innovation to overflow developers and the market.
I thought it was a bit of a gimmick, and to a degree I still do. I know a lot of people call it innovation, but the flipside of that is average. For every game that uses the system well there are too many others that struggle to adapt. Ive lost count of how many reviews ive read on here that mention how the control system is akward, frustrating, shoehorned etc.
On the plus side cause very few people expected it to be a success we are still getting gamecube ports and rushed 3rd party ports to capitalise on its new popularity. So I think things will get better, but id still like to see certain game types just use the classic controller. You know, beat em ups and so on. Im not keen on the MK method at all.
On a final note what Istill think is a bit gimmicky are things like Donkey Kong racing(or whatever its called now). I cant see flailing my arms around to go faster as anything other than a token gesture on a ported game. But there are also the games that will use the Wii zapper which I think looks lots of fun. Im just wondering if it will feel like you are using a proper lightgun, or if you are just moving a cursor around, like in Res4.
Either way, its got me interested in games again.
