Wii will still outsell the PS3 in June. Trust me on that. If GTA can't move over more sales on HD hardware, I doubt that Metal gear solid 4 will.
As for games, there's no big games right now. But it's summer, you should not play all the time. Go outside.

True, you need high sales to enjoy a great game.

Yea, I'd prefer to buy a game that had fewer sales but was completely awesome.
Sales, sales, sales. All this talk about sales yet developers aren't exactly lining up to make games on the Wii, despite its wide audience.
The only game that Wii had to counter against MGS was Super Mario Galaxy. But if you mean what it has currently or in the future then.... nothing. Just nothing. Nothing can be even said at E3 that would change that.

No but I know that Metal Gear Solid 4 is such a great game that I would bet my life and my first born that nothing announced at E3 (for the Wii) will be good enough to counter it. I'll make this statement right now and would bet on it.

Zelda Wii.
I love how everyone just speculates on game instead of admitting that the Wii has no games that will be out to combat MGS4. I think someone even mentioned "Zelda Wii," which hasn't even been annoucned yet and will surely not be out by the end of the year. Dark_Knight6
That would be a game that, if announced, can easily match MGS4 hype. That's what was the "bet", the guy said there would be no game announcement at E3 that could compare to MGS4. But there is this possibility. You might also want to check my E3 2008 thread to know why I am so confident Zelda will be teased at E3.

It would combat MGS4 if it actually came out this year or the next. Looking at track record for Zelda releases, that's not going to happen.

True. From a "direct competition" point of view, no game will ever have a chance to stand against MGS4, since it was June greatest hit, and by next month, the MGS4 vibe will be gone.
Nothing
Mario Kart and Wii Fit are still going strong so from Nintendo's perspective it would be a waste to release yet another huge game so quickly.
I'll break this one down, its like this: Sony begin and is mostly still a 3rd party supported console, and they use to live on 3rd party exclusives, while Nintendo is the opposite, living on 1st party titles. While they have opposite standings the titles are equivalent of each other MGS is one of Sonys biggest franchises, on the equivalent of say Mario or Zelda. GTA use to be one of Sonys big guns but not anymore, Nintendo has released its big guns already in Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and Brawl, Sony has released one of its few remaining exclusive big guns in MGS4. So if you must compare, MGS would actually be a response to the Nintendo games, and Halo from MS. However they still have Final Fantasy, Little Big Planet, and God of War; while Nintendo still has Zelda Wii, possible Kid Icarus title, Disaster; MS has Splinter Cell and probaly some unannounced things, so it looks like a bright future for everyone no matter what console you have, and a long software battle ahead.Sepewrath
Metal Gear isn't a Sony only game however.
Just curious what big new games are coming out for the wii?bobcheeseball
The easiest way to find that out is to look at Haziqonfire's thread, linked to in his sig. You can also look at Gamespot's upcoming release list.
As for this thread, the mention of MGS4 in the title kind of derails the topic from your primary question. Since comparing consoles isn't allowed in the system-specific forums, I'm locking this up.
