I miss when almost every game had at least one sort of cheat or unlockable that might not even change the game, but just makes it more fun. COD kinda has it with Nazi Zombies, but that's about it. I remember asnowboarding game that I still play a lot on my Gamecube called SSX: On tour. There was cheats so you can play as Mario, Luigi, a metalhead, and even A UNICORN! That's right. A snowboarding unicorn. You could dress your cahracter up as a panda or a bunny. A lot of the old tony hawk games had fun cheats like big head, gorrilla, invisibility, moon gravity. That's why I like nintendo--because all of their games have some crazy fun theme. (Whoever invented the Kirby games must have been on acid.) I just wish that games would still do that more.

I really never liked that stuff. I know a lot of people that have the same opinion like you! Goldeneye for the 64 had some great unlocks...paintball mode for instance.

Yeah, they were fun. I had a lot fun with various cheats on Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Glover.

I guess it's just a matter of tastes. You gave a great example with SSX: On Tour and SSX 3 allowed for a ton of appearance options as well. Both great games and they still get play from time to time from me. Then you have newer titles like NBA Jam that have all kinds of unlockable characters and appearance options and hardly anyone is buying that game. I did and I love it. Wrestling games are another place where you can go crazy with customization. That's pretty much the main draw for me with those. Then there are games like Modnation Racers and LittleBigPlanet that have so much customization that you can make just about anything. You wouldn't believe the amount of fan made Nintendo and Sega content there is to download for those games! There's tons of people who create Nintendo characters and levels for those games and they are amazing. (if you haven't already played them)

It would be great if Nintendo would release some games that allow so much creative freedom in the future.

i miss the challenge. games of today have no challenge. even on hard modes. (its not that im that good) Things like regenating health rewards people for cowering in the corner after getting shot instead of looking for more armor shards. Auto saves every 10 sec in games makes it so u dont have to replay long parts because u suck and died. people say that COD is hardcore, not if u are a quake fan.

For me, it'll always be the debug code for Sonic 2.

Yeah I miss that stuff too. PES still has it to an extent, unlocking pumpkin heads in the newest one :P

Meh I never liked hunting around for health packs and replaying big chunks of levels anyway!

Totally agree; I actually wrote an editorial a long while back lamenting the complete absence of cheat codes in modern games. Video games these days need more useless, awesome crap. :P

What's really weird is that it should only take a tiny amount of time to implement in exchange for massive amounts of funny, yet it still never happens? Weird as hell, would like to ask industry people why this is.

nein. A B A B left right A B A B up down A B select start. Was where it was at. Did anybody ever unlock splinter or was that just a myth?

I totally agree, To me it seems people are just too technical these days. Only adding stuff if it makes a noteable difference in gameplay mechanics yada yada yada. Whatever happened to the simplicity of having stuff for essentially why anyone plays video games, FOR FUN.

You can still get things like that. I see commercials for GameStop in game skin pre-order bonuses all the time (I seriously hate that crap). Its sad really. Little things like the cheats you're talking about are being replaced with downloadable content and other junk, like the above mentioned GameStop bonuses.
