It's pretty much guaranteed that the DSi will take the place of the DS Lite just like the Lite took the place of the original DS. Why shouldn't we accept the DSi?Rocky32189
Well...isn't that a funny question. Its loosing the gba port for starters, so you have to have extra hardware around to play gba games. Looses that convenience. If activision even does revise the guitar hero ds games for next iterations, you won't be able to play the current games on the DSi at all. If a game only comes out on the ds store, and not on cartridge? It splits the market greatly.
And to top it all off, if you think about when the ds and gba came out, nintendo should be looking at a whole new handheld. Not a revision of the current one. Almost always is it just one year before the new consoles, the new handhelds come out. The system has probably got nintendos main first party games out of the way, and thats also a signal a new handheld is more needed.
The DSi is just an upgrade of the DS Lite. I don't know why some people are treating it like it's a completely new handheld. It's ridiculous.XeroEXThere will inevitably be DSi-only games, much like there were Game Boy Color-only games that didn't work with the regular Game Boy. It is a cause for concern that they're releasing a new DS model so soon.

And what if nintendo sell most of the gba games in the dsi online store at prices like 5$ to 10$. That would be pretty convenient to people who are starting playing and also that they can get games that none sells cause as all know all the gba games are out of print and some of them are really hard to get

The GBC was more powerful, and games with many colors would be unplayable on the original GB, that's why they were incompatible. The DS, DS Lite, and DSi are all essentially the same system, tech-wise. The "extras" are just different.

Take a look at how the VC turned out for the Wii... terrible. It takes forever to get good games released (Super Mario RPG anyone...) then once you have a few games that you overpaid for you find out that you ran out of space because the people at Nintendo are afraid to use actual data storage on the Wii because it might turn it into a real console.[QUOTE="Rocky32189"]It's pretty much guaranteed that the DSi will take the place of the DS Lite just like the Lite took the place of the original DS. Okay, so you're losing the ability to play one DS game out of hundreds and you can't play GBA games even though you can pick up a GBA system for next to nothing. Doesn't sound like a big deal to me.[QUOTE="hazuki"][QUOTE="Rocky32189"]It's pretty much guaranteed that the DSi will take the place of the DS Lite just like the Lite took the place of the original DS. Anyway, most of the dsi game will be for the download system, and use the camera. . . Nothing that special. If you want to play a meh camera game buy the dsi, and stop whinning.

Not all of them. Some, like Project S-11, literally wouldn't play on the Game Boy.Zwei_ThanatosOut of curiosity, is that a good game? I got it a long time ago, and I haven't tried to play it in forever... maybe I should. Anyways, I think the issue of losing the GBA slot is a legitimate one if the DSi completely replaces the DS Lite. If the two systems exist side by side, then there's no problem - the DSi may lose GBA functionality, but it still has plenty of other features that make it worth getting over a DS Lite. As long as the choice is there, I'm totally fine with it.

I think that's a really great idea, that way you could play older games without a regular DS or DS Lite.
Welling seeing how this topic turned over to a DSi worth it? debate I will join in by saying the only reason I would ever get a DSi is for the SD slot. My computer has an SD slot... I think most of you know where I am going with this.
But to get back on topic the DS will not be cancelled for the DSi because this time next year we will be talking about the new handheld. I mean the real new handheld not the DSi. GBA= DS GBA SP= DS lite and GBmicro= DSi
This is Nintendo doing what they always do. The DSi is a way to milk some more money from the fanboys before the new handheld comes out. I am telling you the GBA barely got 4 years, the DS will be pushing 5 next year. A new handheld is coming. Nintendo will "cancel" the DS when it comes out, just like it cancelled the GBA when the DS came out.

I hate all the moaning about the GBA slot. If you like GBA games then surely you already have something to play them on? if you don't, then don't complain!Tailscoolio
But it is nice to have the option to play them without having to go look for your mcro or lite.

If that's the case then don't get the DSi and stay with the Lite. I'm sure that the DSi only games will be for download if they release any, and still you can play the same games in the three versions of the console, but as the DS and DS Lite, they will have a difference in quality. I had the first DS and when I got the DS Lite I didn't used the old one because the Lite is smaller, lighter, brighter and much more. The same will happen when I get the DSi, it has bigger and brighter screens, it's a lot more thin and the materials will sure be of better quality. And for those of you who are still complaining about the GBA slot, the GBA is out of print since like 3 years! If you want to play them get a GBA, which I'm sure that you have if you are complaining, cause if you don't have any GBA why complain, and if you complain you must have a GBA to play those games since you couldn't get them in a short time after the DS was released.[QUOTE="hazuki"][QUOTE="Rocky32189"]It's pretty much guaranteed that the DSi will take the place of the DS Lite just like the Lite took the place of the original DS. That still leaves Guitar Hero. How is that going to work out? Though, I like your idea (I've though of it too)As long as they have a new system I'll always stay with Nintendo. I got a PSP and a Ps2 system but I sold it to my Nephew and cousin cause I was brought up with Nintendo.
I am even curious if they'd ever make a portable Gamecube. The Discs are small enough. Also I am still using my Gameboy pocket. I traded that for my original gameboy.
I own 71 gameboy and colour games which I have to still use my GBA Sp for. Or my Gameboy Pocket.
the dsi is perfect for me cuz i still have the silver ds phat from release.
i knew theyd come out with a new one so i didnt get the lite.
and it has an sd card slot and the downloadable gba games sounds liek a good idea or they might have some relaly good dsi only games to download you never really know until its here.
and as for the gba slot. all i play is ff tatics advance which i dont even touch anymore and rarely super mario advance 3 yoashis island which i have for snes already. and i have my game boy advance if i ever feel like playing these games that i never play.
I think you will be completely right, DSi will go down in flames and we will see the true next gen. handheld within a couple of years, I don't think Nintendo will push it until we see what sony and apple come up with, as much as I don't care for iPod touch, I think sales will reflect what publishers will do over the next 12 months.Welling seeing how this topic turned over to a DSi worth it? debate I will join in by saying the only reason I would ever get a DSi is for the SD slot.
