Tried this in the recommendation thread and didn't get too far. Two questions I am looking to answers

1. Is I have never really gotten onto SRPGs (Strategy RPGs) and have thought about trying to get into the genre since i have som efree time and was looking for a new game for my DS. My question is what would be a good starter RPG on the DS that might the best option for someone who has never really played them, but would want to learn. I had looked at Disgaea, but wa snot sure if it would be good for a beginner

2. What would be some other good RPGs for a person in my position? I tend to prefer more action oriented type games, and would probably prefer a more action RPG type game, but would be open to other suggestions. I have never really cared for any of the FF games, but had thought about possilby giving Chrono Trigger a try as I never had a chance to play it before.

Thanks for any suggestions

Knights in the Nightmare is a very unique SRPG, and worth checking out for people who are iffy about traditional SRPGs.

Disgaea is a very deep game. Like most RPG's and SRPG's these games start slow so u get a feel for the action. The humor in this game is top notch. The problem between hardcore games is that they assume u know everything from day 1, and since the DS is the "casual" portable, the games are more forgiving. Besides u can do the old fashioned Gamestop trick and buy the used version and just return it before the 7 days when its past its refund date lol. Good luck.

Disgaea is extremely overwhelming and again, not for novices. Magical Starsign is a pretty simple and straightforward RPG.

Try Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. It's relatively short and not too difficult, but it'll help you get accustomed to RPG mechanics. It's also a genuinely fun game filled with familiar characters, nice graphics, and an awesome soundtrack.

Guess I should have noted this, but I have a regular DS Lite.

To PDiddy and the other than have said Knights in the Nightmare, I had thought about that one, but again as with Disgaeawondered if the learing curvemight be one where there might be too much going on for a novice to really be able to get an understanding of everything that is going on.

I had also been reading about Black Sigil, which I beleive is coming out soon, but was not sure if that woudl be a good RPG for beginners or novices to the genre.

Tactics A2 is a good start for novices in SRPG. Luminous Arc as well. They're simple and easy to get into.

I played Partners in Time when it first came out. I tried Pokemon Diamond when it first came out, but realized with having never played any previous Pokemon games that the series just isn't my cup of tea.

Hmm.. after thinking for about 3 seconds I realized that SRPG for begginers doesn't exist for you. Disgaea/ Tactics A2 are easy to get into, but time consuming. Knights of the Nightmare (seems) difficult to get into and also to master. Fire Emblem is a decent game to try, although I've only played the GBA version and assume the DS is very similar. My answer to question one is Fire Emblem because it focuses a lot on strategy and medieval times are super-awesome-mega-time. As for question two, I would look up action RPGs here at Gamepot under DS>All Games>RPG and look for the 'action' tag.

I also would suggest Luminous Arc. It's easy to get into and never gets overly complex or too bogged down with waves of menu jumping or anything. Plus it's pretty entertaining -story/ character wise. And fun. I know I appreciated it's simplicity and straight-forward (yet addictive) gameplay after playing some of the deeper and more intensive SRPG's.

I am not worried about games that are time consuming. I would actually prefer time comsuming games right now. I had actually looked at Knights, but wondered if it was for the more seasoned SRPG gamer.

As for suggestions for my other quesiton, they do not necessarily have to be action rpgs. I have thought about maybe trying to move away from action rpgs and try and experience with possibly more traditional rpgs. I just was not sure what one might be good for someoneho hasn't really played many RPGs. I know people always say FF, but it seems the FF series is for the more hardcore rpg gamer. One game that I am intrigued by is Black Sigil and was thinking of maybe giving that one a try. Was also thinking abotu Chrono Trigger, but was also open to other suggestions.

You can't go wrong with Fire Emblem, dude. The original GBA Fire Emblem was my very first strategy RPG and it's still one of my all time favorite games.

Tactics A2 is what I recommend...it definetly got me into the whole ff series.
It starts you off slow teaches you how to fight and your givin the bare essensials to start the game..(note: plainest weapons and armor)

While playing the newer better weapons, ap moves, jobs, and armor are slowly given out thrughout the whole game. (or not be given at all and then just overwhelm yourself when you finaly go to the bazaar after 3 hours of play which I don't recommend lol)

I disagree.

As much as a like FE I can't recommend it to a begginer for the genre. It's no point in scaring them away from it. FE can be really hard and frustrating for begginers. Even if you and I started with hard games it's no point in doing that today when there are much easier games to try. FE is more a game that you can play if you want to feel how a c1assic SRPG was 10 years ago.

I would recommend either Luminous Arc or FFT: A2. They are very good for begginers and won't kick your ass later on because you made a small mistake in the first hours.

I agree that you can't go wrong with FE but only if you area fan of the genre.

[QUOTE="juster25t"][QUOTE="siLVURcross"] Tactics a2 is one of the easiest SRPG i`ve ever played... I think the only thing that maybe would get him lost is the manufacture system. (and the overwhelming number of missions).[QUOTE="JLF1"]

If you wan to try something different, but not a hard core RPG fan, I would check out FF12, FF: Crystal Chronicles, or Mario and Luigi Partners in Time. All 3 of these games are pretty good and offer something different in terms of gameplay. However, they aren't traditional RPGs so maybe Chrono Trigger may help ease you into the JRPG world with it's superb story (its a long game also).

I have played the first FF:CC that cam eout on the DS and Mario & Luigi:PIT when they were intially released and was pleased with both. I have not played to latest FF:CC. I am leaning toward Chrono Trigger as I have never played it back in the SNES days. I was also reading a little bit about Black Sigil which I beleive comes out today as it seems to be similar to Chrono Trigger.

As far as SRPGs it seems like there are very few for beginners or novices to the genre. Some have suggested Luminous Arc, but I had played that once and just couldn't getinterested in it. Possibly I didn't give it enough time and may have to reconsider and try it again. I have also thought about the recommendations forTactics A2 and am considering that and possibly giving Disgaea a shot. Some have mentioned Fire Emblem, but it seems that some feel it would be okay for a novice, while others disagree soI may stay away from that one for now.

Action oriented SRPG? mmmmh... try this:

Super robot taisen it's a long live series of SRPG really famous in japan

we have 2 for the DS "SRT W" and "SRT K"

obviously only if you have a basic knowledge of japanese, but it's the best SRPG i've ever seen in my live and also the best attacks i've seen.
