I feel the DS has a lot of hidden gems that not many people really play or talk about one of them for me is Professor Layton & the curious village. What is one game or maybe a couple games you play that you seem to be the only one playing.

Why do people constantly make so many "most underrated" or "least known" threads for the DS. 10 seconds of googling will get you tons of topics just like this one. I own a DS and PSP and I like them a lot but its extremely annoying seeing threads with people expecting to find some sort of Halo 3 on PSP or Metal Gear Solid 4 on the DS. Pratically every underrated game on the DS has been praised to the point of actually being overrated. Trust me, theres no secret world of games you won't find by going on to a review site such as GS or IGN.
And how are games that score higher than 8.0 underrated? Elite Beat Agents was nominated as DS game of the year, Proffessor Layton got a 9 and people are always talking about Trauma Center.

isn't that game in japanese only?(the kira kira pop princess game)I'm having a lot of fun playing Kira Kira Pop Princess. Also Etrian Odyssey, Avaon Code, Time Hollow, Legend of Kage 2, Elvenland, just to name a few.

I feel that the Phoenix Wright/Apollo Justice series needs more attention. By far my favorite DS series next to Trauma Center.

Needs more attention? The first DSi bundle is going to be a Phoenix Wright bundle. And the "objection!" bubble is one of the most used bubbles I have seen before, its everywhere.

I'm just letting OP know that its very unnecessary to a make a topic like this, because some quick googling can get results fast.

Wow calm down. I have dozens of friends with DS's and I am the only one that has ever heard of the Phoenix Wright series. And even though the bubble is there, doesn't mean they play the damn game.Hotel Dusk YES!!! We need a sequel ASAP! Are there any other games like this? I mean just the mystery elements?Hotel Dusk

Hotel Dusk YES!!! We need a sequel ASAP! Are there any other games like this? I mean just the mystery elements? If you haven't already, try Trace Memory if you can find it. It's VERY SHORT (less than 5 hours), but it's made by Cing. Nearly every staple that is executed so masterfully in Hotel Dusk seems to have been conceived in Trace Memory... However, these elements are far from refined. The game is definitely worth a play if you enjoy Hotel Dusk. As for another HD, I can only hope... heck, we're STILL WAITING for Layton 2 and 3.[QUOTE="Staryoshi87"]

I think the Codemasters driving games ("Create & Race" and "GRID") are both missed, but I would like to point out "Tiger Woods 08" as one game that is overlooked. Sure, we all know of the series, but on the DS specifically, the swing mechanic using the stylus is so engrossing and real-golf-like in it's feel that I find it to be a gem. It's by far my favorite itteration on any system from any year because of the swing mechanic of the touch screen.
Awesome game.
And to the poster out there who raved about so many threads, this may be a person who is new to the platform or the site (I didn't even look), but even-so there really IS sort of a hidden world of games out there and sometimes you really CAN learn a new trick from a post like this.

There are a total of 3 Layton games out in Japan, we'll see 2 this year but who knows when 3 will hit... I WANT IT. Also, the whole series has amazing music... check out the orchestrated theme from the 3rd game in the Layton series :)

I've seen time hollow posted once or twice but the game was just too easy! If the puzzles were a little bit more difficult I think I would have enjoyed it A LOT more than I did.
I know it got good scores, but I'm sorta new here so I dunno what's been hyped and what no ones talks about, but it seems order of ecclesia isn't mentioned that often. Easily one of my favorite games on the DS. It's just starting to get talked about now because it just became localized, but rhythm tengoku gold (rhythm heaven) is so addicting and SO much fun. It's like warioware mixed with elite beat agents!
Time Hollow was a very interesting concept and a mildy interesting game. I beat it in 2 days of casual play... less than 5 hours probably. Alternate ending is interesting, but meh. Not worth a purchase really.
Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk are both really great if you're into mystery solving type stuff, they're like the investigation phases of Phoenix Wright without the courtroom interruptions.
And how are games that score higher than 8.0 underrated?
ColdP1zza
Trace Memory only got a 7.2 so I guess this should qualify as a "hidden gem" to you.
Panzer Tactics blew me away with how addicting the game was, and it's a little known title.
But this is only if you like turn-based strategy games.
Ninjatown, and Big Bang Mini.
Southpeak makes crap on concoles, but man can they make AWESOME DS games.
What's funny is I love point-and-click adventure, mystery, and the like, but I dislike the Phoenix Wright games :(
W-WHAT!? Disliking Phoenix Wright games is a moral sin. :3What's funny is I love point-and-click adventure, mystery, and the like, but I dislike the Phoenix Wright games :(

Hah that game is awesome.. I could name a million underrated games, but today I'll say it's Balls of Fury.Zoo Keeper. It's a lot of fun, but it isn't exactly original.

Not only is it the best game that no one talks about, it's the best game that no one KNOWS about. Theresia.istuffedsunnyHow do you not...know about Chrono Trigger...? What kind of gamer hasn't played Chrono Trigger...?

But they are people who don't play games often probably like these friends of yours. What I meant is that its an extrememly well known game among "hardcore" portable gamers.

Final Fantasy 4 was like the most hyped game on the DS. But a game for DS that nobody talks about is well, nothing. I'd say every game worth mentioning gets talked about enough. And proffessor layton is huge, theres even a movie coming out and there are still demos for it in gamestop and it got 9.0 from GS.

Firstly, the original poster never said anything about games that are underrated. Secondly, there are many games that receive superb scores from critics, yet they are not popular among the general gaming audience, or they do not receive publicity/good sales.
Also he mentioned hidden gems, which can relate to the point that many of the best games on the DS are no longer being produced and thus they are harder to come by. There are lots of hidden gems on the DS and it is a legitimate question that you shouldn't try to disect--especially if you are going to quote hypothetical other threads you have read on the subject. It just sounds dumb......
As for my suggestions of games:
Electroplankton
Warioware: Touched
Super Princess Peach
Luminous Arc
The first 2 Castlevania games
To be honest there are a lot of them. Many games on the DS are very high quality but no longer in print. I would check Amazon and look for games that don't have a new price listed (as that typically means they are not longer being manufactured) and then go on from there to check ratings and reviews of those games. I'm sure you will find some great ones!!!!!!!
