What mario game is new super mario bros wii based on?

I know that the ds version was based upon the very first mario brothers game but what is this one on? I know that if you can jump on enemies to kill them then it is not Mario bros 2:P

I think Mario 2 was the only one where you didn't stomp on enemies. They kind of go in this order Mario 1, Mario 3, Mario World, New SMB, New SMB Wii. Then there's the Yoshi offshoots.

It has elements from Mario 1, Mario 3, and other 2D ones

None of them are based on anything. They are completely new to the series, not remakes.

I was under the impression that New Super Mario Bros. was based on...New Super Mario Bros...which I have on the DS.

If it was a completely new game...why would it have the same title?

They sorta combined SMB3 and SMW together.

aside from NSMB on the DS.... since it's almost a sequel (or is it a REAL sequel?)

and since i remember SMB3 as my favorite game as a kid... i'd say it borrows from that... dunno, maybe from other mario 2d platformers maybe? and they just added some things like new suits and power ups...

and yea, they say super mario world but never played that one

It is not based on any previous Mario game it just mixes all of the Mario games and adds something new :)

To me it looks the most similar to Super Mario World :D
