What other game does SMT IV play close to?

I'm interested in getting the game since the LE is sexy and the $30 credit sounds sweet. My question is what other franchise does it play like. Some franchises I've played are FF, DQ, Fire Emblem Awakening, and I'm currently playing Project X Zone. Any thoughts are aprpeciated.

A dark Pokemon.

Same franchise, but consider Soul Hackers. A bit more "outdated" with its gameplay, but the same type of collecting demons and battling with them.

From the description, it seems like an incredibly grind heavy and more in depth version of Pokemon.
