I have been looking fro a new DS game for a while, something I can play on the bus to class. I have heard good things about Professor Layton. The Diobolical box looks really neat, but I haven't played the first one. My question to your professors is this. Should I get the Diobolical Box first and grab The Curious Vilage later, or vice versa. Is the second game drastically different than the first, and is there any "story" that might want me playing it in order.

Thanks

I completely agree. You'll understand how the system of puzzles works and the first game is very good and has a neat story. Definitely worth getting your hands on the Curious Village first.

The second one isn't so great without the first one. Plus, the first one is a tad easier. (Still doesn't make it that easy)

You really should go in order with all games. Most players like Curious Village more then DB too.

Not me of course though. ;P

But if you didn't get the hint, you should most definitely play CV first.

All the best.

Of course from a financial point of view it makes sense to do the older one first as you can grab a copy from Ebay or the second hand shelf somewhere and by the time you finish it the same will be true of the new one

Usually in console games, people prefer the latest one than any of the previous games, since graphics upgrade every year (well, in most cases). However, for Professor Layton, I strongly suggest you to start with the first, the story is amazing, and from the technical aspects, it is just as good as the second. The puzzles are a bit more fun in the second, imo, but the puzzles in the first lay down a good basics. So go ahead and start with the first, if you love it, go for the second! (opinion from a huge fan of the series)

I found the second quicker than the first one. I love both of the games and couldn't pick my favourite out of the two!.

I also agree that the second is more fun puzzle wise.
