Please hear me out.

Like the DS Lite, I think that there will be a new Wii remote in 2009. Announced in 2008. Give or take a year. :) The new remote will have anything between powerful gamecube rumble to force feedback. It will have other improvements such as rechargeable batteries and improved accuracy detection and speaker.

I think that Nintendo will release a HDTV improved Wii two or three years on after that, depending on the HDTV adoption rate in America and Japan. Nintendo will make changes to the software to allow for resolution change at the source (which is possible in games). This will mean that the 'Super Wii' (blaaghrspht) will be able to upscale old Wii games and Gamecube games as well, such as The Wind Waker. This in turn means that future and past games on the HD Wii will be both backwards and forwards compatible with each other. It could have other improvements such as HD movie support, hardware redesign or a hard drive.

I'm sorry if you think I am trying to be a prophet or pretend that I have a crystall ball. I do not. I do think that this strategy makes the most business sense, and Nintendo probably know that. :?

It does also make sense for Nintendo to design their next handheld around overclocked Gamecube circuit architecture. Because bringing down the manufacturing costs of the Wii also brings down the manufacturing costs of Gamecube architecture as well, so they will be able to afford to do so. This means that all Wii games may be ported to the 'Gameboy Evolution (spaaghftii) in low definition and it will be backwards compatible with Gamecube games as well, such as The Wind Waker.;) Because what is the next logical step from SD Cards for containing handheld games for Nintendo?

Thoughts? Discuss.

Hopefully you are right.

Yep I really hope the next handheld will do gamecube graphics and play gamecube discs that would be awesome, the only problem is the analog sticks, dont know how they would fit on a handheld, but Nintendo can probably figure something out :)

If they where clever then they would replace duel screens with a single touch sensitive widescreen. That way they could create an SD Card slot for memory and be backwards compatible with the DS too by splitting it down the middle. Touch screen is better than analogue for handhelds. It could replace it.

no offense but looking at how disks have worked out in the handeld department im guessing nintendo will not switch over because not only will it make the handheld bigger than need be it will make it more like the psp and given the "success" of that handheld system nintedo will probablly think to themselves that they should keep doing it their way

I do like the idea of a more powerful wii, but it will just be a new console on its own, i dont have the money to buy an upgraded wii next year and that's why i dont like in the first place :P. All your ideas are cool, but they're not for the wii, Nintendo realises that the wii is doing good, and they're not changing it they will probably implement those for the next console.

You're timeline doesnt really make sense. Most notable is the fact that your HD wii comes out when nintendo would be releasing the actual sequel to the wii.

It sounds more like you want Nintendo to do these things rather than you think they will. Granted I would like a Wii that does 720p as well but it just kinda seems absurd to re-release a better version of the same console a couple years after it first launched. I don't see that as good business sense, I see that as a potential massive fanbase alienation crisis. The only way it would work is if everyone was given a substantial amount on a trade-in.

Oh come on though. The DS is as powerful as the N64 but with more media storage. Nintendo can't stick with card readers forever.

Funnily enough, I predict that Nintendo Wii will actually accomplish Sony's dream of a 8-10 year lifespan. Halfway through it will simply transition into HD after years of success.

How will it alienate fans if the HD Wii is forwards compatible? A HD Wii only needs to upscale old Nintendo Wii games (change their resolution) and downscale new games when they are played on the original Wii.

Would you keep a Wii that downscaled games or would you trade one in for one that played them at their native resolution?

Let's say you opt for the trade-in but gamestop only gives you 100 bucks for your old Wii and the new one costs treefiddy. Would you rethink your decision. Would you feel like you've been baite-and-switched by the nig N?

I'm just curious on how you think something like that should go down...

Nintendo's next system may have backwards compatibility, and better graphics, but they aren't going to come out with like a Wii2 or something. "super wii" no... Theyre going to have a new "revolutionary" console. Obviously no one can say what they will do, but they dont need graphics and HD, and hd dvd to win this war. They have already developed the best console out right now, for the cheapest price of the three. What more can they do to their next console? All they have to do now is figure out how to make gamers (like your mom) who never play games, to play the console, and they capture all the sales of the people who never owned consoles before.

Thats exactly right people would feel like they got ripped off. it would suck to have to buy a new wii with purely better graphics. They need to have more changes than that, and then release a new console!

No and no and no and no and no

Everything in the first post is wrong. For some reason people seem fascinated to see Nintendo doing the best this gen and desperately want to fix it. I have no idea why.

Like I've said before, with the Wii so many people want to fix what's not broken. They see a wheel and say "The round part is good but I can make it better, we'll just make this side flat"

Not only do they make the handheld bigger, they cripple the battery life. Besides, with the cost of solid state coming down as much as it is, it seems like it would be possible to achieve similar to MiniDVD capacities while keeping the cost of the game reasonable.
