What features, additions or improvements would you like to see in the next handheld console by Nintendo?

I would like to see:

  • Improved memory system- ability to hold music.
  • Detatchable memory card.
  • Ability to watch movies?
  • Better conectivity to the wii.
  • More games that utilise the online capabilities.
  • Possibly motion controls?

It would be good to hear other peoples ideas about what the "DS 2" should include.

A joystick would be nice, and better graphics. But I don't want a DS 2 that soon!

Edit: sound probably will be better and I also hope the screens would be bigger and more close to each other.

Better connectivity to the Wii? In what ways? What could it do that the DS couldn't already do if implemented? I'd like to see a console that holds absolutely no resemblance to a PSP or a Gamecube. I'd like tilt sensors that pick up the angle you're holding the console. Motion sensoring would only cause people to drop the consoles and complain. Although media output does nothing for gaming, it'll probably be included to some extent. You know, i'd love it if the dropped all buttons from the console, so it was touch screen dependant. But you know that nearly every western developer would still try tp develop traditional console based games around the handheld, and the controls would suck.

How about:

- the entire inside of the lid as the screen

- some sort of way to put virtual console games onto the ds

- a flexiible stylus (those flexi pencils come to mind)

- wpa & wpa2 connectivity

- an additional touch screen that pulls out from the bottom for map, notes, etc (i know this is a stretch...but its an idea!)

- rumble feature built in

- camera/webcam for online/play would be cool....but why would we need/want on beats me!

- better settings to adjust the backlight, etc exactly how we want it

- perhaps even a small scroll wheel where the L/R buttons are....could be used for many different things (NO not replacing the L/R buttons!)

- a cheap plastic accessory bundled with the ds that holds the charger wire and can also cradle the ds while charging (i hate it when my wire falls behind the furniture/desk/dresser/night table and i have to move the darn thing to get it back!)

i cant think of any other ideas right now.....anyways, let me know what you think. this is my 1st post and i created my account because of this thread. I love the DS!!!!

One huge screen at the top and a slightly bigger screen at the bottom would be nice.

Also, it would be cool in you could get a few fingers "inside" the handheld to make it more like you're holding a controller, which would be more comfortable.

Someone mentioned motion controls, that would be useless considering you would have to be pretty far away from the DS to use the motion controls to any aptitude.

As for rumble, you would shake the screen also. That would make it really hard to see the screen.

So I just want better graphics, more memory in the game cartridges, and maybe bigger screens.

Motion controls can work with a handheld; ever played Kirby Tilt 'n Tumble or an iPhone/iPod touch game? Regarding rumble, it probably won't interfere with the screen too much. Some PDAs and all smartphones have rumble motors that games could use to good effect. Also, remember those Game Boy games with rumble motors sticking out of the end? Anyway, it would be easy to say more powerful hardware that can provide better graphics and ESPECIALLY physics, dual touchscreens with VGA or better resolution, analog nubs, WPA(2) support, and all of those neat, nifty little hardware features. However, there is one particular feature I want with this new DS. That feature would be its own Virtual Console. Think about this for a second. Imagine how cool it would be to buy your favorite SNES games over a Wi-Fi connection and download them straight to your DS2, being able to play them on the go rather than being tethered to your Wii. Also, it would be far more reasonable to add Game Boy games to the service, as well as those from other platforms. Of course, you can already play those classics on the go, but the methods are in legal question and third-party emulators on portable devices generally don't provide perfect performance like those on desktops or laptops can.

Trust me... Flexible stylus is terrible idea... it should be nice and firm - if you know what i mean ;)

WPA and WPA2 is excellent idea!

That would suck unless the digitizers had some sort of tactile feedback, which all current digitizers don't. With physical buttons, you can feel around for them without looking, and you know when it should have sent input because you can feel that button depressing under your thumb/finger. Current digitizers, on the other hand, are totally flat, and the instant you put that thumb/finger down on the screen, input is already being sent. You'd have to concentrate harder as to remembering where you're placing your thumb/finger, and that would significantly hamper gameplay. It's not a bad idea per se, but current technology just doesn't make it practical. (It also reminds me somewhat of the Optimus Tactus concept keyboard, which instead of having seperate physical keys with OLED screens like the Maximus, is in itself one giant touchscreen. However, the same problem here applies, as it is imperative that a keyboard have EXCELLENT tactile feedback to help the typist feel confident that the right keys were pressed without having to concentrate on the screen.)

They need a huge hardware upgrade. Micropayments on a handheld would be retarded, internet would be nice, all it really needs is the ability to play chrono cross, ff7 and ff8. And maybe, hopefully, the original kingdom hearts, .hack, and zone of the enders.

When we talk about a "DS 2" we pretty much agree that this is an upgrade version of the DS Lite, correct. Well, if this is the situation, then I wouldn't do anything to it. It's already good that way it is. That's just my opinion.

-Better 3d graphics

-SOME media support, don't want it ending a privacy-crisis(like what happened to the PSP)

- Dual widescreens, not too big, as that would be rather bad.

- Better online. NWFC is great, but Friend codes are tedious, especially when it's seperated with every game.

- I don't think analog stick is neccesary, as the touch screen is great enough(it can be used like a analog stick, look at MPH)

- Backwards Compaitability.

- Better storage of the games. The limit of a game card is 2 gigabits, a higher value would help developers make their games bigger and better. Look at FFIV, that had voice acting, and cutscenes. However, I can't think of another game with the same high value.

Touchscreens work better for aiming in a FPS, as you suggested, but generally aren't quite so good for moving around. Case in point: Super Mario 64 DS. Why not have the best of both worlds in one handheld?

I would like to be able to have downloadable content. That way rather than have backward compatability and have the gameboy games stick out so much be able to have it downloaded to the system itself.

I know this is kind of dumb to say but I like the idea that instead of the normal ds intro where you can select your game from the beginning make it a gamecube animal crossing style where you can select the game from where it is in your room. Personally I think that would be freaking sweet.

A fully touch screen with no buttons would get nintendo into more trouble this time with Apple (Iphone).

A larger battery and a more durable setup(especially with the topscreen and a scratch resistant touch screen)

make it a laser sensor screen:P that way we can avoid scratching the screen and have more of a wii setup for those who want it.

an internet function would be nice.

a pda would be pretty sweet

now I am listing off half the junk that the unspeakables can do.

that is all i really can say would be nice for nintendo to do besides the other obvious things.

it could use DS points (or whatever it will be called) like wii points and have VC games from gameboy pocket and stuff. also along with game cartridges, it could just have a lot of memory inside it already and have upcoming games be downloaded, but if it didn't have a good connection cartridges could still be bought. Another thing WPA compatibility. I can't go online now because if I want to I would have to either lower security, or buy another router and connect it to the other, which won't happen. Have a good joystick below the D pad. And let it be able to connect to the Wii, like use it as a controller, or at least give the Wii the gamepak thing which lets you play DS games, like N64 had with Gameboy.

I would like to see B/C with GBA and DS games and the ability to retain friend codes from "DS 1" games. I would also like a little joy stick i guess. Oh and maybe ONE universal friend code for all online games...maybe even sharing one with the wii so you have one friend code for all nintendo systems and games?? probably won't happen, but I can dream.
