a Nintendo Sport game. By this I mean instead of Mario Kart it would be something like Nintendo Kart were it has a bunch of characters from Nintendos other franchises (like the Smash Bros series), not just Mario characters. The same thing would go for the other Mario Sports and Mario Party. What do you think, they should keep it just Mario characters, or they should change it to a bunch of Nintendo characters.
The fanbase expects Mario. Give them Samus and Slippy and suddenly your audience disconnects from the franchise.
Konami Racers (GBA) is an excellent example of how Goemon and Power Pros have to be popular before a technically sound game can approach its target audience.

well if Nintendo resorted to this stupid idea that would mean they dont have any new ideas which would be a bad thing I will remember to tell him that :P I myself thought it was ok, I knew many people would hate his idea but he wanted other peoples oppinion so I posted it. Im sure he wont want to know the oppinions now.
They've done some minor experiments like this before with Mario Kart by including R.O.B. in Mario Kart DS, and Funky Kong & Miis in Mario Kart Wii. I think they could do a few more one-of's like this in the future as long as the character doesn't seem too out-of-place. Mario Kart is a colorful, cartoonish world where Samus or Ganondorf would seem grossly inappropriate, but Toon Link or Olimar might not be too much of a stretch.
The problem is that Samus/Link/etc. wouldn't fit into this world.
Mario works because his games are of a more playful, cartoonish nature. The world of the Mushroom Kingdom is not taken as seriously by fans as the Metroid Universe, Hyrule, or the Lylat System.
