I'll make this short because this has most-likely been said before. Nintendo is uber-secretive when it comes to revealing what they are working on and showing the progress made on what they're working on. E.G. Disaster: Day of Crisis, Metroid 3, Kid Icarus and Galaxy for the longest time, etc. A large amount will start to come from Nintendo from 2009 onwards. They are just working on these AAA titles because they take time. What is making the wait seem so long is that Nintendo is letting the shovelware take the majority of control also giving some 3rd-party companies more time to produce quality games (Conduit, MadWorld, Tales of Symphonia 2, Fragile, etc.)

I don't know who you so-called hardcore-Nintendo gamers are talking about when you say Nintendo has changed just because they are also developing for the casual market now, thus the reason why there are mountains of shovelware. It is you who have changed (talking about those who don't understand why it takes 3 years to make a new game). Nintendo has been doing this for years. Look at the gaps between Super Mario Sunshine and Galaxy. Look at the gaps between Super Metroid and Metroid Prime, the biggest gap between a sequel in Nintendo franchise history. If you think Nintendo has forgotten you then leave but if you haven't lost faith then just wait patiently or do something constructive while you wait. Go back and play the classics even, you will only have to wait until 2009. Go and play another console in the meantime. I personally will be playing KH 1 and 2 on Expert just because I like the story. If you play another system you by no means are betraying Nintendo, it's just called 'being a gamer'. As long as you know which one is still highest on your scale that's all that matters.

So not revealing a single hardcore game for over a year is secrecy? No. Nintendo's priorties right now are with the casual gamer. Just because they take their sweet didly time doesn't mean everything they make will be AAA. Just look at Pokemon Battle Revolution and DK: Barrel Blast. They haven't "abandon" us, but they don't really care about us as much as the soccer moms and grannies.

They're just trying to get more people involved. It's a hard task to manage, wouldn't you agree? Plus, if they only appealed to hardcore gamers this gen I'm sure you guys would eventually just go and play Gears of War, Call of Duty or another game on another console. Yeah the casual would probably only pick up 2-3 titles for Wii this gen but Nintendo is becoming globally well known not just to the loyal but to people of all ages as well. That's a big achievement for any company IMO. Plus, they're rolling in dough right now. Btw, how long have you been a Nintendo gamer? They didn't reveal much games that often back in the day either.

Why do pious Ninty fans always make owning a Wii seem like joining a religion? Do not criticise the Church of Nintendo! Be quiet and wait patiently for Link to return and grace us with His presence! Be grateful for what Nintendo has given you and do not ask for more. The only way to Great Games is through me, Nintendo, your savior! Do not place any other developers above Me!

What's even scarier is that they don't consider the blasphemous casuals to be good enough to share the same God. Expect riots and massacres before this gen ends.

Nope. Some people who bought a Wii expressed annoyance and disappointment about the direction Nintendo has gone and the lack of quality of its library and the breaking of promises, as well as Nintendo's behaviour towards third parties.

Even this little bit of dissent could not be tolerated! Everyone must follow the Church of Nintendo with no doubts or reservations! Consequently, a Inquisition was launched on the Wii forums to castigate all who dare not be happy with what Nintendo (hallowed be thy name) hath given unto us. This Inquisition took the form of a slew of threads and posts insulting, harassing, scolding, berating, chastising, attempting to silence, and hating on dissenters, as if it somehow personally affects them that others don't fully agree with them and they must defend Nintendo with their honour.

Wintry_FLutist speaks the truth, maybe he should be the new God :P Yeah, it's crazy how hardcore gamers have been spoiled by Nintendo all these years to the point where if Nintendo annouces anything other than hardcore Nintendo franchises they feel they've been sent to hell.

You seem not to want those who are discontent with the Wii to be seen as fanboys (maybe because you are discontent yourself), but just as there are people utterly annoyed with haters to the point they get ridiculous, there's those idiotics people all like "IT'S SET, NO NINTENDO FOR ME ANYMORE" and such. They do act as if they magically signed a sacred contract when they bought a Wii, showing their faithful support to Nintendo, deserving then eternal bliss (aka super duper hardcorez gamez), but have been betrayed.

It's the same thing both among haters and lovers, there's no denial. Few people are still making sense around here.

who honestly cares if they're making tons of cash? Last i checked, we don't own nintewndo stock.

We don't mind that they're focusing on the casual market little bit more now. That's where the most money is achieved. the problem is that they've almost completely shifted fosus. Their E3 presentation proved that.

you know, this whole matter wouldn't be discussed if nintendo had struck an honest to god balance between the non gamers and the ninty fans of the old days. You're right, nintendo takes it time to make great games. but when exactly are they coming out? 2010? id rather not wait that long.

Personally I'm glad Nintendo is taking their time. I don't have as much time as I used to to devote to games. Life changes, people grow up and you have more responsibilities to take care of. ATM, my newest games are Super Paper Mario (which I'm enjoying every second of, and so is my older sister, who loves 2D games). I don't need a game from Nintendo every year, I just want a high quality game that they took a large amount of time to work on. They gave us those titles at the beginning but you guys STILL aren't satisfied? Get a life you insatiable people.livinitup01

Dear god no! He has seen through my thin disguise! Aaaack, must run before they come with pitchforks!!!

but just as there are people utterly annoyed with haters to the point they get ridiculous, there's those idiotics people all like "IT'S SET, NO NINTENDO FOR ME ANYMORE" and such.Wintry_Flutist

I doubt it, considering that typing in All Caps is a ToS violation. And in any case, I certainly haven't seen them, and haven't seen many dissenters that could be so uncharitably (and UnNintendoianly!) characterised as "idiotics" [sic!]. Most of them voice very reasonable disgruntlement, only to be immediately attacked by multiple posters whining "not this again!" and trying to shut them up, as well as other posters launching insults at them, and giving them unsolicited advice on what to do and where to go. This, followed by posts and threads complaining that anyone should not share the same opinion as them that everything is rosy in the Mushroom Kingdom or wherever Nintendo's HQ is located.

And in these threads and posts, I consistently see the dissenters' opinions simplified and mischaracterised, misrepresented, and mocked. It's easy to set up strawmen and burn them down, but it doesn't forward debate or change minds.

They do act as if they magically signed a sacred contract when they bought a Wii, showing their faithful support to Nintendo, deserving then eternal bliss (aka super duper hardcorez gamez), but have been betrayed.Wintry_Flutist

Most don't. Very few I've seen act like that. They are simply unhappy. They don't think Nintendo "owes" them generally, but they want better and wish for it too - I know; how dare they!!!!

It's the same thing both among haters and lovers, there's no denial. Few people are still making sense around here.Wintry_Flutist

There is a key difference. Pious Ninty fans reprimanding the straying sheep indulge in insults and threads directed towards dissenters, reprimanding them for their opinions and feelings. No dissenters of any stripe do the same. They merely express their opinion and feelings, and sometimes, ask if they are alone in this or if someone out there feels the same way. Dissenting posters solicit opinions and discussion; Pious posters censure opinions and try to prevent discussion.

It's one thing to express your opinion and argue it. It's perfectly okay to think you're right and that others are wrong. But it's a whole other thing entirely to believe that, not only are they wrong, but they shouldn't even express that opinion and should just leave - the thread, the forums, or the Wii community altogether. I simply cannot stand that kind of arrogance, which I frequently see on display in this forum.

I think I know why you can't wait that long. That would take patience. Today's gamers lack patience because off all the other games that keep screaming for them (E.g. GTAIV, MGS4, FFXIII, Resistance, etc.). Back in the 16-bit era it was either Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis. Most of today's gamers played either Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis or both and were relatively young so they didn't care for much. The games back then were relatively simple in comparison to today's games and didn't have as much depth either. Now that the gamers of that era are older and the video game market has sky rocketed since then, having to wait 3 years for a game feels like an eternity, so many gamers would rather go with the next best thing. It's just the change of times.

You're right, i do lack patience considering NOTHING AAA is coming from ninty this year. Please don;t be like reggie and say "but, the hardcore have animal crossing!" If you honestly think one game is enough to satisfy a bunch of us this holiday season, then you're either in denial or like you previously stated, you don't have much time for gaming.

Thankfully i don't have to worry too much about my wii. Why do you think many have a 360 to compliment their wii?I don't want to turn this into SW, but a glimpse from the 360's lineup would show you why some of us are kinda irritated by ninty's choices.

I think I know why you do not dedicate yourself fully to the Church of Nintendo. You are not a Good Nintendoian and not a true gamer. This young generation has no patience and seek instant gratification, rather than waiting patiently like pious gamers for the Holy Spirit of Nintendo to descend upon them and grant them contentedness and tranquility.

What these ungrateful young Nintendoians need is a visit from the Ghost of Nintendo Past! That'll teach em a thing or two about gratitude for sure.

Everyone seems to forget WarioLand, that has a great shot at AAA, and at the least AA.

Sure it's not a lot, but it's certainly a game to look forward to.

And my family actually owns a bit of Nintendo stock ;)

I think everyone is using the terms AAA and AA incorrectly. Those traditionally denote the amount of money spent on the production, not the quality.

Your dedication is incredible. But, being in the discontent camp, you pretty much just want to to see the "Pious Ninty fans", ignoring the overload of "Pious Ninty haters" that have been polluting the boards since November 2006.

I agree. There are some awesome 3rd Party Games along with City Folk & WiiSpeak coming this year to pass the time (especially World Tour & its Music Creator). We can wait.

I'll make this short because this has most-likely been said before. Nintendo is uber-secretive when it comes to revealing what they are working on and showing the progress made on what they're working on. E.G. Disaster: Day of Crisis, Metroid 3, Kid Icarus and Galaxy for the longest time, etc.A large amount will start to come from Nintendo from 2009 onwards.

Go back and play the ****cs even, you will only have to wait until 2009. Go and play another console in the meantime. I personally will be playing KH 1 and 2 on Expert just because I like the story. If you play another system you by no means are betraying Nintendo, it's just called 'being a gamer'. As long as you know which one is still highest on your scale that's all that matters.

livinitup01

Why, oh why are people still expecting Kid Icarus?

As for the rest of the post I agree, people are clamoring for Hardcore even though the 2 biggest hardcore series had new additions this year, if you're done playing Brawl or Mario Kart already you are not a Hardcore Ninty gamer. (For the record I AM NOT saying that I am a hardcore Ninty gamer, obviously I have a 360 as well and I have a job and a girlfriend to tend to for cripes sake)

Edit: By "the rest of the post" I meant the bottom paragraph.

This.

LOL at calling me a Nintendo hater. When was Disaster: Day of Crisis shown, E3 2006? If they really cared, they would have made finishing that and Project H.A.M.M.E.R a priority over Wii Sports 2 and an N64 game with voice chat.

...and don't gimme this, "Good games take a long time to develop", because Geist, which was in development for a LONG time, sucked, and Twilight Princess was one of the most disappointing games I've ever played. Super Mario Galaxy was amazing, and that came out only a year after it was announced. On the other hand, where's Projecy H.A.M.M.E.R, Disaster, Kirby Wii/GCN, and tons of others? Those were announced in 2005-2006, and they still aren't out. If they actually set there priorties straight, they would all be out by now.

You know the more your making more topics about this, the more people keep complaining about it, seriously, people need to stop complaining, I'm not gonna tell you to get a life, I don't have much of a "life" anyway, although I just think people need to be patient, and please don't tell me you played every game worth playing on the Wii, I'm pretty sure that not all of you played SPM,MKWii,Brawl,Galaxy,MP3,NMH,Secret Rings,Okami,RE4 and the list goes on, honestly, people, stop it, if you don't think the Wii has good games than don't play it.

I agree with TC on this one. Nintendo probably wants to draw in casual gamers that they can convert to hardcore. They don't need to reveal all of their games years before they come out. They don't want to overhype, because they want the games to be more popular. I don't see any of YOU guys making games yourselfs or any of YOU working for Nintendo, so you don't know what is going on. Just wait patiently. Jeez

^ Just look at this thread alone. Dissenters have been told to shut up, that they're not welcome or wanted here, told to leave, and even personally attacked. Can you point to any Dissenter in this thread who has done the equivalent? Yet, I do not see you bothered the least about this. In fact, I see you voicing your agreement with them while turning a blind eye to this behaviour.

Dissenters are attacked as not being true Ninty fans or gamers. They are told to stfu and gtfo and get a life. People somewhat humourously insult them as "terrorists"... and somewhat not so humourously as "idiotics", "haters", "spoiled", "impatient", "ignorant", etc. etc. I've seen this pattern repeatedly. I have never in my experience ever seen dissenters behaving in this way. So you'll have to excuse me if I'm not bothered as much by dissenters' disagreement as I am by pious Ninty fans' rudeness and ad hominem attacks.

I think this thread alone is nothing compared to the overload of hate I've seen through the board and, although everything is calming down and we're more into "OK come to think of it it's not that bad", we can can still feel that atmosphere.

Wintry_Flutist

Again, your mind-reading abilities astound me. How is it you know better what I've seen than I do? I have told you that I have never seen Dissenters act this way, while I consistently see Ninty Apologists acting this way. I even said it was a pattern of behaviour. And even if I were to point this out in every single thread that this occurs, I'm sure you'd say the same: oh, that doesn't matter considering what I've seen Dissenters say elsewhere (with no examples.)

Well, what I see before me is continued harassment, ad hominem attacks, insults, and rudeness directed towards Dissenters. I see it in this thread and I've seen it in all others to do with this topic in the past. And every time, I never see Dissenters replying in kind. Well, I call it when I see it before me, and this is what I see. And I'm getting really sick of it.

While I may not fully agree with someone who says, "Nintendo betrayed us," I do not think an opinion I disagree with is on par with insults and personal attacks. I accept others' opinions and their right to say them, whether I agree or not. I do not accept the pattern I see of attacking Dissenters in order to silence them. Here is the pattern:

Whenever a Dissenter says anything (or even when they don't and the poster just feels like starting a new thread about this to scold Dissenters), the following types of responses are typically seen:

Response A: An Apologist posts a strawman argument and then knocks it down. A strawman argument is one that typically oversimplifies, mischaracterises, misrepresents, or is the weakest, least held argument of the opposition (Dissenters, in this case) that is presented in order to make the writer look like a real he-man for being able to knock down this argument - despite the fact that it was only a strawman (taking no strength to defeat whatsoever.)

Response B: An Apologist yelps things like "not this again" and complain about the complainers complaining.

Response C: An Apologist jumps to unfair conclusions that mischaracterise Dissenters and oversimplify their position, saying things like "if you hate the Wii so much, why don't you just leave/sell it" and gets worked up with an Us vs. Them mentality; everyone who dissents is a hater.

Response D: An Apologist tells the Dissenter to leave the forums or learn to shut up.

Response E: An Apologist makes some sort of insult. Typically, it is towards the Dissenter's intelligence.

Response F: An Apologist launches an ad hominem attack. The most common ones I've seen are that the Dissenter is not a real gamer, not a true Ninty fan, is a kid, or doesn't have a life.

They haven't "abandon" us, but they don't really care about us as much as the soccer moms and grannies.

toadster101

lol you think the took time with those games?

those games were b posibly c level development teams that are being rushed because the game in question won't ever really be all that good.

as for secrecy, we all know, nintendo doesn't like to tell people stuff because then people get expectations and things that people loved being in there may be pulled for various reasons and people will get peeved.

As for the religious metaphor: because I like to think that I have a sense of humour and try to defuse situations with it that can otherwise become hostile.

As for getting lots of ammo ready: because I feel that intelligent posters who present respectful arguments deserve responses that respect their intelligence by giving them the means by which to see things the way I do, and a plethora of good reasons to do so.

Wintry_Flutist

Because I associate silencing dissent, excommunication, censure, and intolerance of other opinions with organised religion.

If you question Nintendo, you are not a true gamer. If you question your religious institution, you are not a true believer. Besides, the OP talked about "losing faith", and I associate blind, unquestioning faith with religion.

No offense to anyone who is religious meant.
