.....Gamecube controllers with the Wii. Are most games compatible, or are there just a few? Do people often substitute the Wiimotes for controllers?

You don't seem to get it. The GC-controllers are mostly used for playing your GC-games on the Wii. However, some games should be played with a GC-controller. Yes, I am talking about SSB:B. I speak from experience.

it's simple: there are a few games that are more suited to traditional controllers, so those games have support for the gamecube controller, in case you don't have a cIassic controller.

Okay, let me rephrase. Say if I bought Dead Space extraction but did not want to use wiimote + N/chok, could I buy a controller instead.

I don't have that game so I'm not sure which controllers are compatiable but...Look on the back of the game case, it'll have a pic on the top right of all the controllers that can be used with the game.

Thats the problem I have. My sensor bar will not pick up signal for shooting games. I don't know why, it works on the menu screen, also on mario kart, but fails on the 007 & Bully games (when using sling shot). So, if I buy it, its 50/50 whether I can play it.

Well Smash Bros is worst with the Gamecube controller so I'm not too sure why you'd recommend that

using the wiimote and nunchuck combo, you put your thumb on the A button and your index on the B button,in the gamecube controller you use your thumb for both A and B buttons

it is hard to explain :P

I Agree Jaysonguy. I like to use the Saturn Controller Setup for SSBB myself.

The GameCube controller ports were made for the GameCube and the virtual console games. Some Wii retail games use them.

I disagree to Jaysonguy. The Gamecube controller is the best for the controls on SSBB.

True. My best setup would clearly be the Saturn controller Setup though. SSBB and the Saturn Controller were joined at the hip.

Wii is meant for motion controls. I will say i prefer some games to use just a gamepad, but i have no real complaints with the Wiimote/nunchuck for almost all games. The only games i play on Wii that i use a game pad instead of Wiimote is Brawl, Muramsa, MH3. Games like geometry wars, SMG, LOZ TP, MPseries, NMH1/2... i think all have great uses for Wiimote and gamepads are useless.

It depends on the game. If you look at the back of any Wii game box, it'll have an icon that shows what control types are compatible.

if he understood why would he open a thread about it? TC, to answer your question no. very very few games support it. a few more games support the CC/CCpro which imo feels better then the GC. As for your issue. turn your lights down. the sensor bar simply has two lights in it. it can be substituted with candles, there is simply no other logical explanation for the issue you describe. the only thing that could cause this is a light tripping up your wiimote.

nah, it's just mostly agreed that the cIassic controller is the worst option, right next to the wiimote sideways, to "play seriously". and sakurai himself would always say the gamecube controller is the best option of all.

I was led to believe that the classic controller had a much better/sensitive D pad and was superior because of this. Haven't even plugged our wii in yet though, tis for xmas. Any place for me to research the difference? I sprung for 2 new classic pro's, but we have 4 or 5 good GC controllers. Thanks

You're doing nothing wrong. There is only one way to play Brawl and that is wiimote to the side. I've played so much from the wiimote to the side that I sucked when we recently held a Melee tournament locally. I only came in 3rd. Blah.

I agree with magnusm1. It's the best with the GC controller. I highly recommend using the GC controller for SSB. I think most would agree too. We should run a poll and see.

On topic, pretty much every Wii game uses the Wiimote and most use Wiimote+Nunchuck.

Some games, such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii offer alternatives because they know not everyone would like to use the Wiimote + Nunchuck set up for a particular game. For example, Smash Bros. doesn't feel very good with the Wiimote+nunchuck, so offering support for other control methods will satisfy most everyone. I don't really know why they did that for Mario Kart Wii as it feels just fine with the normal set up (or Wii Wheel), but I guess it wasn't much trouble implementing support for other methods. It was good in my case, as I got enough controllers for 4 player multiplayer if you included my GC controllers (well back when Kart came out anyway).

Looking on the back on the box will tell you exactly what controllers the game supports.

If your Wii sensor bar is having trouble picking up your pointer, then I recommend sitting further back. If that's not fixing it, then there could be something interfering with the Wiimote and sensor bar. For example, Candles will deflect it, or if you have glass with glare nearby, that might potentially interfere too (ie just under the sensor bar).

The Gamecube controller is compatible with some mainstream Wii games. It also works with Virtual Console games.
