I found Contra III to be pretty easy, when you've tried a couple of times.. I'd say Gradius is a pretty hard game. I haven't played many of the games that are on the VC right now, though.
I'm way suprised nobody said castlevania 4. Thats my pick. hazuki
Yeah that game gets pretty bad once you are in the castle, but I think there are way thougher games on the VC. IMO think Comix Zone is harder then Super CastleVania 4.

I had the Laser and Lock on but i lost at the last boss (theres 4 right?) You fight 4 but there are more transformations so not everyone ends up fighting the same. When I beat him he was some running dude, bird, gun then finally a wolf/dog The board game part is fun but also frustating as I always have to fight Churry and Rice and I always lose a ton of health but luckily the boss on that level is really easy
Gunstar Heroes was easy, just get two of the green triangle things as your weapon and just hold down shoot and dodge for 5 minutes. Each boss has a predicatble move set.
Wow, is it true that some VC games are harder than some of the current games? If so, I should try some of these "hard" games you're saying. Haha, I like playing Super Mario Bros. though. Not worth $5 though.
