I'm new to Gamespot (Hi!) and I looked around the DS/3DS forum, since I had only owned Nintendo handhelds in my 15 years of life. Reading some topics and responses, I'd noticed that almost all 3DS owners have issues with the buttons and the screens. People said their fingers are slipping off the shoulder buttons, the screens scratch against each other when you close the system, etc. I'd also noticed that everyone have their own issues, as if each 3DS have it's own flaw (some have soft buttons, different feel of stylus, etc). I don't have a 3DS, so I can't share MY experience, but am planning to buy one. I'm just wondering about all this random stuff. Also, it seems the battery life is short in the 3DS. I heard the 3D effect can drain out the battery. In my DSi, I lower the screen brightness to either 1 or 2, and i don't use the camera so much. When I'm using the Internet, I always turn the volume off (I don't need to hear "typing"). Finally, I almost always charge the system when I'm not using it, even if it still have alot of energy (sometimes I charge it WHILE i'm using it). I'm not trying to say "haha i can save battery life". I'm not like that. I just assumed maybe you guys can do the same thing (while you can) so you can reduce battery usage in your 3DS. :)

I haven't had any of these issues. I love my 3DS. The only problem I have with it is the stylus placement, but now I'm use to it.

You can definitely do things to prolong battery life like lower brightness, turn the screen on power saving mode, turn the internet off, and lower the 3D effect. The 3DS's battery life is worse than any previous Nintendo handheld easily but it is still manageable. Their are the other issues such as the bottom screen smudging the top screen when closed and scratching if you are very unlucky. I've never had any issues with buttons or the stylus though. Overall though the system is really cool. It is worth owning, although when ever the redesign comes out I'll be selling mine to pay for the new one. By then they should have solved these issues.

It probably feels that way only because the people who do have problems are posting about it. So people who don't have problems don't make threads saying "My 3DS is fine". So, in other words, just because you read all the posts that are complaining doesn't mean all 3DS owners are having problems, it's just those who do have problems are vocal about it.

In saying that, there are problems, but not as much as it may seem.

I've had mine for a few weeks now, no problems. I'm just weary of the screen problem so I protect it with some cloth inbetween it when its not in use. Other than that, it's a really cool system and will have some good to great games coming out quite shortly. If there's a newer version in the future that's better, I'll probably trade this in for it, since Nintendo's second revisions always seem to be the best, but I'll cross that road when I get to it. Right now I'm just enjoying it.

Have not heard any of those issues with the 3ds from people. Talked to a gamestop employee just last friday actually when I was there. Only thing he said was you gotta hold the 3ds a certain way for the 3D effect to work. I am getting it soon also but holding out for the red version.
