Im gonna say... not any time soon, if at all. The DS Lite is an amazing system that is still selling like hotcakes. Why should they make a new one?

We don't need a new DS atm. It would be completly unecessary seeing as the DS Lite is selling well and they're still producing new color models.

Maybe, just maybe somewhere in late 2009.

it is not that, it is the fact that threads like this one are not allowed. Look at posting rules.

How many times must I say this THERE IS A 3RD DS, It is in prototype form. They say they do not plan to do anything with it untill wii popularity has gone down (which will be a long time). I am not intrested in it though because they say it has bigger screen better sound but NO GBA PORT stuppid hu.

Nintendo has already filed for patents on new designs for the DS so it would seem that they are definitely working on it. That has to be taken with a grain of salt, though, because companies often file for patents and copyrights that they never actually get around to using. In any event, it doesn't seem likely that we'll see a third iteration until sales of the current version start to slow.

If I had a dollar for every time I read a topic of when the new ds is going to come out I would be a rich man. Don't expect a new nintendo handheld for a couple of years down the road. It sometimes can take years of planning before a handheld or a game console will come out.

Why do people say "selling like hot cakes"? I understand the premise but come on... hot cakes? If we were in say the 1950's i'd be on board, but it's 2008. Hot cakes? Let me ask a question to anyone here that may know the answer. Just how well do "hot cakes" actually sell here in 2008? Personally it's very rare that I'm out and about and hear someone say "awww man I just gotta have me some hot cakes", please step aside kind sir so that I may purchase all of these wonderful hot cakes.

They can always improve. Thinner model, bigger screens, more features and such. They have to so it can keep up with advancing technology.

As a matter of fact....nope I didn't. Did you miss the part where I said "I understand the premise". See I was using another type of speech called humor. Maybe even a bit of sarcasm I guess.

I understand the premise. But does he say "i'd be on board" in his query? Why, if you were in the 1950's would you be standing on a length of wood... or perhaps he ment that he would be on a boat eating lots of hot cakes. I just don't get it!

No I was not born in the 1950s. I was just saying that the ds was selling more than most systems right now and will continue to. That is why I said the ds is selling like hot cakes and I love pancakes so sue me. LOL ha ha.

well... the dslite screen is bigger than the original ds and its resolution is the same if not better. If you up lines of resolution and are adding pixels, an increase in screen size doesn't dictate a loss of resolution.

Analyst: DS redesign already done

Pacific Crest Securities' Evan Wilson says new version of Nintendo's portable complete; holiday release torrent creating retail woes.

Nintendo's DS Lite redesign has proved a tremendous success, regularly topping hardware sales charts around the world since it was first released in Japan in March 2006. Despite the system's success, Pacific Crest Securities analyst Evan Wilson believes Nintendo has already finished work on its successor.

"Our contacts indicate that a refreshed DS is complete," Wilson said today in his holiday preview investor's note. "It is thinner (it has no GBA port), has on-board storage, and larger screens. However, we do not expect a revamped Wii or DS until sales begin to tail off in all three major geographies." As of press time, a Nintendo of America representative had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.
