I know its possible to just use SD cards, but would it be that hard for Nintendo to release an update that lets us use USB Sticks and/or USB Hard Drives?

That would practically solve the space issue wouldn't it?

well that and allow apps to be run from external storage.

technically i cant see it being very difficult to be honest and a firmware release to allow that is the easiest solution for all imho.

but i think ninty are terrified of piracy so they need to try andf find a way of letting ppl use external storage as usuable memory while, at the same time, stopping pirates from cracking the system and distributing said files. the latter is impossible if the former is allowed.

Nice Rig Osan0

But hdd and usb app components will prove difficult to adjust to the systems settings.

Though its is possible it is like what osan0 said was its highly unlike because og piracy and cracking the system settings and have a shop around at the wii shop for free!!!

Which i but Nintendo will be delighted watching their fat wallets become the shaped of female model :)

it's too late, pirates are already using the SD slot for their evil ways as they like..

the reason for apps not running from external storage is because they would have to be held directly on the RAM

and not all apps do that, or CAN do that, there is a VERY slow speed between SD cards and any device, it's quite irritating, and this would leave large latency times. Booting of SD just won't happen

Nintendo will never come up with a soltuion......even though there are dozens of solutions that wouldn't only be free for nintendo, but nintendo would profit.

Couldn't nintendo put some sort of encryption on downloadable content so that the stuff you download from the shop channel can only be used with your wii's specific wii number, or binds it to your console. That gives those annoying numbers a more useful purpose, and if microsoft can do it, why shouldn't nintendo be able to? That way you could have as much content as you wanted on removable storage devices. Even if you had to have your wii replaced, there is presumably some sort of solution to transfer the rights of the content, as microsoft manage to do it, even with the huge percentage of 3 red lights on their consoles.

i dont know where u got that idea from...but 3 things to consider here.

1) most VC games are so small they can fit the entire thing in the wiis ram. even N64 games

2) u grossly underestimate the performance of flash memory, SD cards and hard drives. the wiis disc drive is much slower than the other thigns and wii games run from it just fine. although the USB 2 interface would be a bit ot a bottleneck..it would stil be a hell of alot faster than the wiis disc drive. theres nothing wrong with the external storage option.

3) that internal memory in the wii is nothing special....its just flash memory. its not RAM...its more like a solid state hard drive. much much much much slower than the Wiis ram.

Well maybe they can like, make space on the Wii, but save games on sd card or usb, when some one want to play a game...it can put thta game on the wii play it,a nd when the gamer is done it can return it back to the SD card...all with out the user noticing it happeing. I think this is the best solution
