Yep, for some unknown reason Nintendo thinks it's important to keep a veil of secrecy around the release dates for Wii Ware and VC games. It's a ridiculous policy and it honestly makes no logical sense.-wildflower-
It makes plenty of sense. If Nintendo told everyone exactly when X game or Y game comes out, all that anybody will care about is checking the VC channel on those days of interest.
Now, if it's all kept under wraps, you will go to the VC channel every monday to check which games come out. If it's not the game you're looking for, Nintendo is hoping that you will look at the new releases and say "meh, ok, I'll give this game a chance" and download it.

By that logic there shouldn't be release dates for anything. People should just have to show up at the theater and see what's available. Oh well, the movie I wanted to see hasn't been released yet so I guess I'll just check out one of these other movies. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
Besides, if I am a developer of Wii Ware games I know that I would want potential customers to know exactly when my product was coming out. I'm sorry but Nintendo's policy on this is really backwards and has no logic.

No, you're wrong. Movies are different because they have the money to advertise, and it makes sense to advertise. It doesn't make any sense for publishers to advertise video games from 10+ years ago because not enough people care about them. People checking the VC releases every week is the only way for hidden and obscure games to get noticed.
If you can suggest a better solution for how they should advertise their product (without spending millions on advertising campains), let me know.
hey guys, does anyone know of a site or a place on this website where i can see when VC games were released? I just want to know which ones came out each week. Pretty much I'm looking to see if DK64 and Mario Kart SNES are out/when they come out. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. Also.. are either of those 2 games out yet? I don't think so, but just checking. Thanks. bceagles358

In Japan there is a release list of every game coming out that month, it would be very easy for NOA and NOE to do that as well.If you can suggest a better solution for how they should advertise their product (without spending millions on advertising campains), let me know.

Hmm, there's something new called viral marketing and I've heard it's very popular on this thing called the interwebs (I think that's the one with the email?). From what I understand is it uses preexisting social networks (like, say, this message board) to make people aware of a brand and increase sales.
I guess, as somebody else already said, they could also release a list of each month's releases like they do in Japan. But what do I know? I'm wrong you know.
Oh, one more thing, I wasn't specifically talking about old VC releases either. I was including new Wii Ware games that DO NEED TIME TO ADVERTISE THEIR GAMES.

Well they do advertise WiiWare games, not only on the Nintendo Channel, but on some websites as well. It's not up to Nintendo to advertise 3rd party games, and they have never really done it that way anyway. And when Nintendo gives us a release date, it's never accurate anyway. Also, for some weird reason, games often tend to have longer legs on Nintendo consoles. It's not like the other systems, where a game will make most of its sales in the first week. Instead, games will continue to sell relatively well for months. I think it probably has something to do with the Wii's audience.
So I don't know...to me, I'd rather have it where I know games exist, but let the release date be somewhat of a surprise, because otherwise we'll get delays and everyone gets upset about that. Nintendo seems to like keeping everything under wraps anyway, and it's worked for them so far (in their opinion, at least).
