See, I refuse to spend anymore than the $250 price, and it has to include Wii sports. I'm not paying any more than that. If I did, then I'd be letting the scammers and a-hole ebayers win.radink
If i call target, can I verify this?radinkAbsolutely, I called mine the Saturday before I went and stood in line and they said, in exact word, "We have around 20 in stock. We are expecting a line so arrive a little early." I was the fifth in line and I got there an hour and a half early. They gave the tickets out at 7, and you could come back at 8 when the store opens to pick up your Wii.
Those are either display boxes or units that just recently arrived on a weekday say a few hours before a person says they saw it. I have seen tons more PS3s on shelves then wiis in the wild. Only one wii in the wild and that was in a walmart that had the wii in such a manner you couldn't see it if you were browsing the electronics section.
There are sites that track and report when stores get their shipments. Often a store will hoard them for a sale that is advertised in flyers sent out to people's mailboxes. When you see one flyer for wiis then other chain stores in your area will also be selling wii's that day. There is a legal reason for this. It's to protect consumers.
The wii is a lot more tech sosphiscated then people would bear to admit. It has bluetooth, wifi, internal memory, a two size slot loading drive a first for a game console much less the slot loading cd-rom dvd-rom making industry. Tell me why don't car cd slot loading drives take in the mini cds that used to come with certain cds?
It has incredibly low power consumption.
All in all the wii is a lot more sophiscated then people like to admit. It goes through a rigourous factory production process which is why Nintendo has the lowest hardware failure rate in the console industry.
Also people are buying them in droves. Wii sports is a major selling point to the nongamers. Tell me is a 60 year old going to buy a PS3 or Xbox 360 no they are getting Wiis because of wii sports and other wii games they might become aware of.
250 dollars is very affordable and desirable for a toy. Yes videogames are toys. 500-599 dollars on the other hand is not affordable nor very desirable for a toy.
There are wii bundles however. They usually have seven games and other accesorcies such as a SD card some controller gloves etc that with the games, console usually add up to the price of a PS3 which doesn't come with accesoricies, games etc.
So the wii bundle is a much better deal and well they sell a lot of them. So you may have to bite the bullet on 600 bucks but hey you were planning on getting additional stuff anyway.
You are apparently unaware of the sites that track wii inventory. Many stores will claim to not recieve shipments when in fact they have been stockpiling them for special sales that are advertised in mailed pamphlets or put in the newspaper.
Nintendo has not reduced production but are in fact increasing it in April.
It takes four-six weeks for a shipment to arrive in NA from the factories in Asia.
Stores will lie to you about not having units in their backrooms because they have been told to hold them by management for said special sales.
Nintendo is supply 1 million units a month to North America, Europe, Japan and other countries such as Australia and other countries with small gaming but growing gaming populations where the wii costs over 500 dollars. An xbox 360 costs close to 800 and the PS3 will cost over a grand and a half.
You don't know anything about the wii shipments. Nintendo isn't shipping many units to eb games because they want to reward stores that sold many Nintendo products instead of giving Nintendo the shaft.
EB Games and other game stores take large amounts of money from Sony and Microsoft to command the most shelf space for their products. Nintendo doesn't pay any money so they always get the smallest amount of shelf space even though the Nintendo games sell more per space allocation then the Sony or Microsoft ones do. Ever wonder why the game store has racks of psp games and umds even though the sales are in the toilet for the psp? Because Sony pays the game stores for that shelf space.
Nintendo remembers that and has decided to not send wii units to stores that stopped carrying Nintendo products making said store chains plead with Nintendo to be sent Wiis for sale.
Targets, Bestbuys, Walmarts, Toy's R US are getting the lion share of the wii units.
In Japan a store will get an allotment of 2000 wii units and sell them within a few hours. Tell me do you think shipments are going to last that long with that kind of demand gulping up the wii units?
