I have yet to get my hands on a Wii U, but its obviously going to eventually get a 3D Mario game. However, they have about 4 directions they could go with it. They could do the Super Mario Galaxy formula, with mostly liner worlds and collecting stars, the more open styIe of sunshine or 64, 3D land and its marriage of 3D and 2D elements or something completly different. Short of something all new, I would like to see more of 3D land's styIe of play. I really enjoyed the marriage of old and new, it felt fresh, but wasn't without its faults. A second go could see those polished up.

I kind of doubt they'll go back to the Sunshine/Mario 64 style. Looking at Galaxy, 3D Land and even Skyward Sword it's clear that Nintendo is trying to make games that are more accessible. Here's what I want from a Mario game: 1. Keep it fresh -- Mario isn't just about being retro, Galaxy proved this. 2. Galaxy and 3D Land were great gameplay-wise but I'd like a bit more of a sense of place. What I liked about Mario 64/Sunshine is that you really felt like you were in Mario's world. I'd love a game set in the Mushroom Kingdom -- Peaches Castle, Toad Town, Mario's House ... maybe a world in Yoshi's Island. 3. Use the controller!

Yep. SM64 is still the 3D Mario king, it's time we get a new masterpiece like that. Please Nintendo! :)

I want one in the style of Mario 64. I really enjoyed the exploration elements of that game. I guess a Sunshine 2 would be cool too if they put some variety into the environments. FLUDD was rather cool IMO.

I want something new.

If they do go with another Galaxy, I will be very disappointed because I didn't care for the Galaxy games much at all.

I agree with most people it should be something like Mario 64, I didn't enjoy the Galaxy games that much. Mario 64 was just one of those games.. oh, the memories...

Now that they have done two games that were mostly linear, something that I absolutely loved, I think it is time to go wide and bet on exploration.

It will be a nice chance of pace given that it would be the first Mario game to go down that path in over a decade.

That's starting to sound too much like Banjo Tooie, no thanks. I'd like most of the gameplay to not be made up of trekking back and forth across mostly empty stages.

Would you like it to be a Mario platformer as well or is it fine if it's an RPG or third person shooter?

I'd prefer something more like 64 or Sunshine. The Galaxy games where great but I think 2 is enough for now.

Defitenly set in the mushroom kingdom, they could probably create some pretty trippy worlds with the Wii U's enhanced graphical capabilities.

They probably could, but it's more likely Nintendo will settle for something bland and safe that they've done before.

Why would that be bad?

The market is flooded with 2D platformers but there seems to be next to no "collect-a-thon" exploration-based platformers... (except maybe Nuts N Bolts on the 360 but that focuses too much on the vehicle creation aspect).

Agreed. I can't think of a single platformer released this generation that could have been considered a collectathon.

I think larger levels with some secret areas for those that like to explore would be nice, especially since the hardware pretty much gives the developers lots of leg room. SMG2 looks amazing on the Dolphin emulator running at 1080p native so I can only imagine what SMG3 would look like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkroLroovM8&hd=1&t=2m27s

The Galaxy Series is one of my favorite of all time. I wouldn't mind them expanding on that and just making the worlds "planets" larger and more exploratory, I love the way it handles and the way the physics are implemented and enhance the gameplay... also guilty pleasure... star bits are fun. Haha!

I'd prefer a more linear Galaxy or 3D land type game. The only reason Mario 64 worked because exploring in a 3D world was new and exciting then. Now its better to just jump in and have fun.

Super Mario Galaxy was an excellent game. A third one with a more complex storyline would be interesting, as there are so many possibilities with this series. Paper Mario. There's Paper Mario: Sticker Star on the 3DS, but if they ever make another, Wii U would be the best bet. Super Paper Mario was pretty good plotwise, but (while still fun) lacked the gameplay depth of its predecessors. Mixed with a good plot and unique combination of gameplay mechanics, another Paper Mario wouldn't just be another rehash. I've always loved RPG.

Meh, doesn't hurt to dream. They'll probably work on a similar game in a different franchise, like what they did with the transition from "Sunshine" to "Galaxy". (Though they've already done that with "3D Land".)

I'd like a Super Mario Bros. 2 esc. type of game, with the ability to play as Mario, Peach, Luigi and Toad, call it Mario Universe.

Super Mario Universe - Similair mario 64 ds in that your mario but you unlock more characters, There could be one standard universe with mario and the other chars have a similair universe but the levels and puzzles are slightly or vastly different.

Mario galaxy 3

Something different that we don't know we want yet.

Also mario 64 remake with co-op would be cool.
