Maybe you dont know this, but Dawn of Sorrow is $10. And in some places Portraid of Ruin is $20. So if you expected to pay $30 for a game, you might as well get both. Both are great. Dawn of Sorrow is better.
If Dawn of Sorrow didn't have the soul system then I'd give the edge to Portrait of Ruin because of the mini quests in PoR. But DoS does have the soul system, and catching all the souls is a quest in itself (though not everyone thinks it's fun). I had a blast playing both games and can't recommend one over the other. Buy both. :)
Konami has dropped the price of Dawn of Sorrow to US$19.99, so don't pay more if you're in the US. What an awesome deal. Before the re-release and price drop all the stores around here were selling it for $30 *used*.
Dawn of Sorrow is truer to Castlevania than Portrait of Ruin is. For example, you control one character in the main game of DoS, rather than two in PoR.
you control two characters in castlevania 3 dracula's course for NES, from my point of view POR try to remember it ... I prefer POR than DOS, the music is much better and the gameplay with two characters is a lot of fun
I've got them both, and I think DoS is better. PoR has a great replay value, but it's all based in repetition, doing the same things over and over (like mastering skills...).
