Which Character Is More Obscure? Link (Zelda) Or Samus (Metroid)?

With Metroid 3 soon to be released it's got me thinking who is the more obscure character in their series.

Most people think the lead character in Zelda games is named Zelda and most players who don't follow the Metroid series thinks the main character's name is Metroid.

This is a really tough one for me because I think they're both buried in their title names so deeply. They've never had a title called "Link saves the day" or "Metroid 2: Samus bugaloo". Yes I know that there's "A Link to the past" but no one that doesn't follow the series knows that the character name is in there.

I'm still stumped, I don't know which one to choose.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.

Thats a fairly tough call. Like you said, both characters are mistaken for their titles, I can remember being young and playing the first Zelda and wondering why the hell his name was Link when Zelda's name was in the title. I'd say Samus is the more obscure one, because Link is almost immediately identifiable as the character you play as. Most people can see a guy in a green tunic and floppy hat and know thats who it is in Zelda. Samus, however, is nowhere near as recognizable as her armor. On top of this, Zelda has always been the more successful series for Nintendo over Metroid, hence an 8 year gap in releases.

I'm calling Samus because at the very least, non fans people think she's a dude or a robot.

Lol my friend played Zelda for the first time w/ OoT and he named his character Zelda cuz he thought that was Link's name. Then when he met Princess Zelda in the game, he's like WTF?arcelice

My mom knows who Link is, and she doesn't even play video games.

I forgot about Return of Samus. There's also Link to the Past, although that one'sa bit less obvious.

I'm gonna have to go with Samus. I know alot of people that think her name is Metroid.

I used to hate that game, in fact I still do hate that game. It's the worst metroid game ever created in my opinion. The graphics (ugly black and white colors) and gameplay were very boring to me. The main objective of the game was to keep killing the same creature over and over again. It was the first metroid game that I ever played, and it was so bad to me that it made me think that all other metroid games would be that terrible.

I disagree... I think the majority of people that even know what zelda is know Link is not named Zelda. And I've never heard anyone call samus metroid, they'd just not know her name.

I think you're forgetting some really important games:

• Zelda: Adventure of Link
• Zelda: Link's Awakening
• Zelda: A Link To The Past
• Metroid: Return Of Samus

I know what you are thinking, "a link to the past" is less obvious from the other zelda games... But Still!

For me i would say that metroid is the more obscure, nobody would know if she's a robot, a dude, or a girl.

I think there's been excellent arguments on both sides of this.

So far this is what I've taken from it.....

Link: More popular then Metroid as a whole with more games released so there's more examples of people thinking that Link is named Zelda

Samus: Less popular then the Zelda series but people don't even know the GENDER of the hero let alone the name lol
