Grand Theft Auto Chinatown or Pokemon Platinum? Both games are coming out around the same time, and both are pretty popular series. Which do you think will sell more?

definately platinum! because there are more little kids(like age 7-14)who own ds' than older people(15-19)although i am 15 and am still a huge pokemon fan. gta just doesn't seem like that great of a game...
Ya know... i know a lot of kids who are addict GTA players, as a matter of fact, i know more adults who play pokemon than adults who play GTA, and i know more kids that play GTA than kids that play pokemon. Weird, no?definately platinum! because there are more little kids(like age 7-14)who own ds' than older people(15-19)although i am 15 and am still a huge pokemon fan. gta just doesn't seem like that great of a game...

Platinum, even though it is kind of a remake. Also, it is rated "E for Everyone!". So there is a large audience.
Pokemon Platinum , Chinawars doesnt have anything special

I really hope you are joking. EVERY Pokemon game since the Original Gameboy days has been almost beenEXACTLY the same.
Come on !! I know that it'll be Platinum because there are thousands of Pokemon fans that though nearly all the Pokemon games are the same ( well based on the same thing : walking with a guy, collecting pokemon, and fighting) I think that Pokemon is an O.K. game but GTA is something new (probably a good game) and not like Pokemon. So the Pokemon 'addicted' people (I noce was addicted to it  but now I'm not) will buy the new one and wast money though nearly all the Pokemon are the same. SO PLATINUM WILL PROBABLY SELL MORE COPIES BUT IF GTA GETS GOOD REVIEWS AND ALL THAT IT MAYBE COULD SELL COPIES. Your question is kind of hard to answer bu I think Pokemon Platinum
Sorry for repeating myself :oops::!:
Your logic is not wrong, but it will be very hard to GTA to outsell pokemon platinum, and i mean very hard, this GTA will surely feel like a watered down copy of GTA, some GTA fans and players will surely complain about graphics or music or interactivity or cars design or controls or something else. Don't get me wrong, this game will sell some copies, but i doubt it will get nearly of the ammount of the main GTA series at the Playstations, unless this has something new that is really super addictive. Through pokemon is still basically the same, it has been improving slowly with the time, and hardly will feel like a watered down game of the main series, so if you still like the series like many, you will hardly find reasons to complain.Come on !! And even though Grand Theft Auto is a popular franchise, many people consider it over hyped. Its just a violent game, breeding future criminals in my opinion. 'Cause most people don't play through the campaign. They run around punching random people, jacking cars so they can do drive by's on unsuspecting gangsters and pick up hookers so they can hear dirty sounds coming from the back seat, and to top it off you become a mass murderer and its a good thing. I remember when GTA4 was released and they were gonna ban it from resale furthermore because some 15 year old bought it and tried grand theft auto on a guy driving down the street. He got beat up and charged. When the police asked him why, he said "I thought it would be as easy as Grand theft Auto for the PS3." But yeah, Pokemon is even more popular of a franchise and has been around for a very long time. I don't know a single person in this world who doesn't know what a Pikachu is.Come on !! Game rateings won't stop kids from buying GTA either. It would defiently be Platnium though that sells more. Kids are just predictable these days-it's either Pokemon,GTA,or a stupid licensed game that they want. Stupid advertiseing!pokemon will sell better. The much wider audience and the lack of sex and violence. Also the fact that it is very good unlike some best-selling games
Whats so completely sad is thats so true. Yet somehow we're hooked in on every new game. They put you in a new place with a couple new pokemon, they make some new pokemon moves and characters, and then add a feature or two like online play or minigames like making poffins or pokeblocks. Then we eat it up like its a new era of fun. But its the same fun we played... over... and over... and over with a new look, and we're so blind to fall for it.Platinum. Ppl just cant seem to get enough of the same exact crap they played in Pearl and Diamond..... and Ruby and Saphire.... and Gold and Silver.... and Blue and Red....

While Im not directly attacking the Pokemon fanbase Im just really confused as to whymany have played EVERY game that comes out and ultimately come back for the next installment knowing itll be just like the last? Its pretty rediculous to be honest.

The same can be said for many mainstream, popular series. The story, characters, and places (among others) might change slightly, but it's all the same under the surface (ie, the same game). Same could be said about many genres. It's the simple fact that people love the series and want to play it.
Otherwise, Platinum will probably sell more due to the fact (lets not kid ourselves) it's Pokemon. GTA is to 50/50 to really say, not until it's actually out and people play it.
Pokemon Platinum because
1 GTA: CW looks to become an underrated game.
2 More Pokemon fans. Seriously, you know the line I saw at Gamestop for resevered copied buyers?

Whoa there Jack Thompson. Games don't make people violent.. Crazy makes people violent. If those crazy people happen to play a videogame that doesn't mean that is what made them that way. If someone was that stupid and impressionable then any number of things could have set them off. To say it was a videogame that caused it though is ignorant.
That said pokemon all the way.
That's easy. Pokemon. In Japan, they sold 1 million copies in what I think it were 3 days when it came out. That's crazy!
Wow bash Pokemon for using the same template with added features. THAT hasn't been done before has it?
Mario, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Halo, Madden, etc. What series out there hasn't benefited from the original template and created something that is new enough that it deserves attention?
It's called innovation. Pokemon is a game that has built upon the fundamentals of its beginning in new and interesting ways. Obviously if they didn't build on it enough, it wouldn't be garnering the review praise and the insane following it has.
Before you condemn Pokemon fans, think about the series' that you enjoy and whether or not they do "Basically the same thing."
Originality is wonderful. It's something that is lost a lot these days, but it's still out there. Maybe the reason that these games get sequels is because that's what people want, more of the same feeling with new features added on to make it better.

Hehe well you got a point there. Japanese take pride in what they do, and they should. Most of the awesome things I can think of come from there. They sure love their games, that's for sure. And I love them for that:P and the games.
Exactly. You are 200% correct.Wow bash Pokemon for using the same template with added features. THAT hasn't been done before has it?

Actually its more along the lines of veterans who are faithful to the series and fans who once abandoned the series are welcoming change to an old and tired formula but Nintendos to scared to try something new.
Sure ppl will bash Pokemon here and there for being the same old, but youll see those same ppl playing the next game in the series.

Can't blame 'em. DQ is a good series, and they really take pride and joy in what they do. :PNo. I disagree. I've been playing the game since day one with Red and Blue and I can say that the game has had just as many updates as other games of similar nature, and in some cases more.
Pokemon began from a dude who thought that running out and catching bugs as a child was a nifty idea. His name was Satoshi Tajiri. He basically packaged this childhood nostalgia and put it into a game cartridge with the originals. The game was the swan song for the GB and GB pocket and was basically one of the most well received and best selling titles of all time.
Fast forward to year 2000. Pokemon Silver and Gold come out on the heels of the originals, sporting a good 50 hours of gameplay with a realtime clock system, 100 new Pokemon, enhanced color graphics, and in the case of Crystal, battle animations and the option to be a girl. Not too shabby. Also, you can travel throughout a fully backwards game and defeat 16 gym leaders in the game. The ultimate in fanservice lol. In my opinion, the 2nd generation games are the very pinnacle of the Pokemon games, Crystal becoming my all time favorite Pokemon game.
A few years later, the GameBoy Advance comes out and shortly after, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire are released. A newer better graphic palette is decided on and the game becomes a very colorful achievement. The game introduces unique type combinations, double battles and a "natures" system to dictate further differences between Pokemon. They add another chunk of Pokemon to use. Shortly after these two are released, Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen come out in the forms of remakes of the original two games. Emerald comes out as the proverbial expansion pack to the 3rd generation of games.
And now we come to the 4th generation games for the DS. The game spans a quest about 60 hours long, more if you pursue the many legendaries present in the game, a roster of about 500 Pokemon total, Online play complete with an "afk trade system," a hybrid 3D on 2D graphic engine, updated sprite work, new battle tactics and moves, etc. Platinum is coming shortly to be once again the staple expansion to the series.
No, Pokemon, from a fundamental perspective, hasn't changed radically since it was created. But if you look at every small detail that they painstackingly added to the series over time and combine it all, it becomes better than the sum of its parts.

Good question, lol. GS users (us) are all game haters that look for flaws in every game, trying to make them hateable by the population. (50% of sarcasm) Ya know... one thing i noticed is: Pokemon still remains the same on the core, with some modifications through every game, and some people complain that the game core is the same. Resident Evil series changed deeply into the core when it comes from gameplay and experience, previously the game was a survival horror, now with resident evil 5, the game is more of a fast-paced action game with mutated enemies, and people complain because of the drastic change. Conclusion? People just like to complain/rant.[QUOTE="PrincessMorte"]

Wow! I didn't know that. Over here in Puerto Rico, when a new Pokemon game arrives the game stores get really packed with kids. I like going to the store just to see the kids' faces when they get their game: their excitement reminds me when I was younger and I went to buy some new game too. It feels cool.
