Who else still looks back at the first super smash bros and wonder

Where Fox got his fire fox power from. He has always been one of my favorite charachters but that has sort of always been a mystery to me. I might be over analysing things but the first idea that came to me was that the power came from years of working with spaceships, and some how all the radiation caused his body to be able to do that.

How do you all think he got the power.
