I don' t know if it is me or what but i really find playing New Super Mario Bros. Wii very awkward with the remote sideways. Specially after playing for an hour. I think the remote wasn't really made to play sideways since vertically it is ergonomic and fells great to the hands.

Of course it was made to also be used sideways. They knew it would be used for playing NES games. You can't create a controller that has the ergonomic feel you want holding it two different ways. It feels fine to me, I don't know if the game has classic controller support or not.

Agree, the motions are awkward. Also, when I tried it with WM+ attached, it became awkward, it takes a while to get used to it, probably because I have small hands.

I don't find it awkward at all, holding it like an NES controller feels like second nature to me.

If you dislike sideways Wii Remotes, then you're probably not gonna like the controls forMetroid: Other M.

I didn't mind the feel of it, but the act of shaking the wiimote to execute the spin launch or little midair hop mario does to get extra height on a jump... Stupid. It's the very definition of waggle.

It can feel a little crammed at times, but overall it's fine. I don't really care for the holding of the 1 button and then shaking the controller to pick items up though. It's just tedious to me.

I love the controls for that game. Holding it on it's side feels fine to me.

Feels fine. Feels, well, like an NES pad.

Wii remote is less comfortable and a little more awkward than a good 2D game pad (like Megadrive/NES etc), the buttons are too small as well. But then turning it on it's side was only a secondary function. I find I prefer using the classic controller even for NES games etc, as it is better designed for the purpose.

Having said that, I didn't have any problems with NSMB with the wii remote, though I admit I'd have preferred it without the crowbarred in motion bits and if it had classic controller support instead.

I play with one of those big colored shells that have round edges, but never found using the wii mote as a problem.
