I use the Mote and Numchuck.

I use Wario. (ive tried most of the characters, and he seemed to work best for me) Can someone recommend a good Starter Character?

And dont say "You suck at video games" because I kno i dont. this is the only game I struggle with.

If you want to get better at Brawl, just remember it's not like other traditional fighters. If you button mash, you have NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER of winning a match. If you want to get good, look over ALL the actions you can do. Don't just think about the attack buttons; think about the blocks and dodges as well.

If you want some good advice, download the Nintendo Channel if you haven't already. If you look up the game Brawl, there should be a list of Brawl tutorial vids that can really help you get good.

After that just practice and eventually you should get better at the game.

id try someone else. link isnt bad. marth is another good starter. also metaknight would be a good one(though he tends to be overpowered) just keep in mind that the idea isnt just to get the most damage, but to knock the other person off, though you need damage to do that lol. hope i helped :)

Try kirby out first and just keep practising in single player mode.

find a way to keep people away from you while you damage them (but dont overuse an attack...). sending them off with strong moves is good. then smash them away. i personally hate wario because his attack range is ridiculously short. and most people learn faster with marth or kirby at the beginning and then move to other characters. or, if you really like'em, keep them as your main.

meh, im not really fond of this game because its unbalanced and whatnot, but id say to switch to gamecube controller and use meta knight to get used to controls. he and fox are good for starters because theres still an okay chance of winning even if you just spam about 2-3 moves throughout the whole match.

Mario is actually a really good starter. If u have a GC Controller I suggest you put that to use. Much easier smashes.

I use just the wiimote though. I used to be pretty bad too. Make sure your using your block for more than "Blocks", Use them to roll around

and dodge, A loooot.

Grabs are your friend.

Just don't go out of your way to use them. :)

I would recommend getting a gamecube controller (assuming you've played melee) , and even if you haven't, the control scheme is much more traditional and practical Anyway, use falco instead of fox. much better character. he has the following -short hop lazering -chain grab -with the gamecube controller, can sort of slide into his Usmash -good priority -his reflector can trip people and it's a decent projectile. -good air game.

I got a wireless GC controller just to play Brawl, and it was worth it. I would suggest switching control positions from anything but what you have now. At least for me, wiimote w/ nunchuck is the worst control scheme. Brawl is really meant to be played with the GC controller, and the closer your control scheme is to a gamecube controller, the better off you will be. However, if you find that you play better with your current control scheme, then I suppose you should stick with it. There are multiple control schemes for a reason.

Level 2? Wow, not to seem mean, but that's kinda low. Let's see...... Use Mario as a starter since he is the most balanced, and do practice mode and classic mode. Soon you will be able to fight three level nines... LIKE ME!!!!

Dodging is important to learn for a beginner. What I did was go on practice play against lv9 and try to dogde his attacks and don't hit him. When you get good at that you would most likely be decent.

Hit and run, dodge as much as you can, use the block + sidestep move and always, ALWAYS be aware of your environment. Use every element of the stage to your advantage; don't be afraid of complex stages, like Rumble Falls, Spear Pillar or 75m, because knowing every inch of them may pay off one day. Also, items are very important, something as simple as a pokeball can turn the whole match around. Practice grabbing and throwing items until you become really good at it. You should also try to learn what every item does; the soccer ball, for example, can give you an easy frag if you learn how to use it properly.

It's said that practice makes perfect. Try some regular matchups then slowly work your way up with harder difficulty till you get the hang of it.

pretty much there are 2 things you need to get good at brawl get good at moving about and dodging... generally if you manage to dodge an enemies attack they are vulnerable for a split second (it really isn't long), and generally movement in brawl is pretty quick so you gotta be thinking pretty quickly to be maneuvering the character to an adequate level and secondly, be checking the damage line ALL the time, because there are a lot of smash moves that won't hurt them that much and a lot of small moves that will allow you to rack up their damage without sending them flying away and having to chase them down again, you gotta know when to use them once these two things are improved, your whole game will improve

unfortunately it's brawl's main means of play this time around. It revolves way too much around camping (which is one of the reasons snake is top tier) Watch some brawl vids and melee vids and you'll see the difference. one reason melee was so entertaining to watch was seeing characters like Falcon get a good combo on someone and they were going down hard.

well considering i hated all the glitches from melee and most times use the wiimote sideways (unless i need to be really competitive... which i dont becausem y friends suck :P), i'm not sure i can be called a competitive player. i play with the "flow", if you get me. kinda like synchronizing your commands and your instincts. i kinda play on automatic. i dont think, it happens. and dont say i'm bad >_> i actually have a couple videos where i play... like when me and my 3 friends made a team battle... me against the 3 of them and i won :P

Buy a classic controller or try to find a GameCube controller to play with. Chances are, everyone you play is using one of these, and that is the first thing knocked against you. Mario has always been a good starter character to get people going in the mechanics of SSB(et al). My personal favorites are Samus and Pikachu; Samus forces me to take my time and think carefully of which moves I do, which help because her special moves are very helpful and strong when used well. Pikachu is a pure speed demon, letting me get in hits against people who I'd otherwise struggle with if I had a slower character.

I tried that, but it didn't work out very well. Have you tried a classic controller or a Gamecube controller? I personally perfer the gamecube controller.

Assuming you've unlocked him, I recommend Toon Link. Also, shield dodging is critical. Shield as much as you can and attack at the right moments. Also, I use GC controller because it is a lot simpler.

For the love of god, get a Gamecube controller.

Wii-mote is fine and all, but if you played the old ones at all, (and it's possible you didn't) then it'll feel better to use a Gamecube controller.

I can't play with anything else.

Also, Wario is a moderately hard character to master. I'd suggest starting with Mario, Kirby, Pit, or Link and just go through the adventure mode with them.

Also, practice makes perfect. You'll only get better if you play a lot of it. Preferably with your friends or against level 9's when you get good enough.

Practice, practice, practice.

1) Use Link, he's one of the most balanced characters in the game; decent speed, good range attacks, good close attacks, fairly good recovery . Wario is heavy and awkward to use in my opinion. Toon Link is faster so give him a try too, be careful he gets KO'd easier.... I'm all about speed in SSB though personally. (use the speed to dodge heavy charged attacks and to whittle your opponent's life down)

2) Get a game cube controller, it's MUCH better. Learn how to use and abuse the c-stick.... quicker than the A button in, many cases.

3) Play your friends in real life, Brawl's online is atrocious and lags like none other.

Mario is a good character to start with, I used my first time in SSB64, he is simple and can land solid hits. I don't know ur gaming habits but I do know that Brawl is a fast paced game that requires a lot of instinct under pressure si uit might not be your thing. After all I murder my little bro at Brawl but get killed in Mario kart every time, bottom line everyone is different and you can't be good at everything.

Some people aren't good at brawl. I can beat a com easy but when it comes to people... not so much. I suggest Mario. He's one of my mains and he's got great moves. Also, stay away from using the same moves over and over again, and ESPECIALLY stay away from over-smashing. Another suggestion is use Meta Knight, but only as a last resort considering he's the god of Brawl that everyone hates.

I recommend you get a Gamecube controller and use whichever character you feel the most comfortable with.

Then you should really practice with the controls. Know how to dodge, shield, block, grab, and all of that. Once you get the controls down, you should start playing level one first, and then gradually work you way up to nine. Playing Classic Mode several times will help too.
