Why aren't 1:1 combat controls being done?

Several times I've heard counter arguments to 1:1 combat saying that it's too complicated to mimic the motion of the wiimote exactly, hence why swinging the wiimote in any random way is say a diagonal sword swing. However, if you take a look at Wii Baseball, when you're at bat, BEFORE you swing, I've found that it mimics the position of the mote EXACTLY. Tilting the mote to any direction at all is precisely represented in the game. Surely the accuracy of the motion control should be high enough to detect a movement of 20-30cm to any side, which would, paired with the tilt of the wiimote, perfectly display a sword strike. What am I missing?

No developers want to be bold and take a stab at it cause it's easier to just set pre-made gestures.

I have no idea, but I gree that it would be awesome in sword play. Wasn't the fishing in Zelda 1:1? It felt pretty good to me.

They're waiting for Nintendo to do it.

No other company wants that blemish on their record if they fail with it.

Let's hope the new Zelda can do this, without it feeling awkward.

Great point. *sigh* the Wii COULD be so much more with the hardware it's got, imagine if they got this right, together with the unique graphics and physics system which is said to be capable of getting a lot closer to 360 performance.

Devs rely on Nintendo to show them the way. Metroid for controls, Galaxy for Graphics, and another game, possibly Zelda but that's WAAAAYYY far off so I hope it's sooner, for 1:1 motion.

I think that's really sad, period. On top of that, Nintendo is a great developer, but it's not to say that someone else couldn't do even better. I'm really disappointed by the amount of innovation on a system capable of so great innovations.

But yeah, it's in Nintendo's interest to keep the customers of their console happy - which is why they take the effort. Until you see how it's really supposed to be done, you'll be content with what you've got. And that's a lot cheaper to game producers. It just makes me sad.

They really don't GET Nintendo's hardware that well so they need someone to hold their hand the first time. It is pretty sad.

Hey isn't that new Dragon Quest game going to be a 1 to 1 ratio or at least close to it? or is it going to be preset angles?

Yes, I can see that.

1) A link to a resource detailing Dragon Quest, because I'm lazy

2) "isn't" implies someone or something gave him that idea - where?

It's not, you don't even see the sword on screen.

interesting, i admit that in baseball it does move realisticly

eccept one thing that developpers would have problems doing in a sword fight, it's to calculate, or to know when exactly the player is attacking or defending, meaning .... if you move the wiimote backward, the signal sent is "the wiimote is moving back. stop." it won't know if you are holding it back or stuff like attacking by pushing the wiimote forward ...

Nice find, I'm glad to hear it's really being considered and perhaps worked on already.
