I know, first people say they would want any form of online chat, they get it and now complain it's too crappy or don't care about it at all.

We can't say anything about it because on one tried it yet. Plus, we still have doubts on how it will work.

Probably because when Nintendo finally comes out with something we wanted, it turns out to be crap(e.g online)...friend codes anyone?

Nintendo Wii Speak

"All this voice chat was happening courtesy of the USB “Wii Speak” microphone, placed on top of the sensor bar of the demo Wii. What was impressive was that, in a loud room filled with the sounds of many people enjoying their demos, the speaker was able to pick up my voice from around ten feet away as I talked to Mario in a normal speaking voice. I had a comfortable conversation with Martinet, and we had no problems hearing each other or understanding what the other person was saying, even in these less-than-ideal circumstances. In other words, the Wii Speak speaker is a pretty nifty piece of tech."

I understand no one know's how it works but I been reading every post about Wii speak and it seems as though everyone is assuming how it works and trust me Nintendo wouldnt put this Wii Speak out if they wouldn't think it would work I know they put a lot of thought into this just like the Wii Remote everyone was bashing that and now look at where Nintendo is today so hearing about Wii speak had me excited.

Because the feature should have been there ages ago tbh. I am not going to stand up and applaud Nintendo coming to the party late..especially when the pioneering title is a game I couldn't care less about.

Now that I think about it, maybe they will make an Ace Attorney game for the Wii in which we have to shout 'OBJECTION' on the Wii Speak.:P

It's bit like a lasermic right? But in a cone..
I don't know whether it will work well or not but looking from nintendo's point of view this step is so logical yet so unpredictable, it's quite impressive.
They represent social gaming, so they could hardly cut peoples children off from the outside world by placing a headset on their heads now could they? They again deliver what we're asking for, just not in the ways we expected.
I heard a lot of negative comments about this idea. Probably resistance against the unknown as most weren't logical at all. One example of early conclusions or assumptions was that having voices through Your TV speakers sounds horrible because it sounds horrible on xbox 360.
I can tell You i get all voices during TF2 through monitor speakers of less quality than my tv speakers. I don't use a headset, and they are all crystalclear depending solely on the microphone they use.

Yes, and that's why it made even less sense as to why we couldn't use our DS to communicate during Wii games.

The DS got a headset, the Wii got a speaker. Now that we have Wii-DS connectivity why can't we use whichever we want?

Thats why people are asking questions.

Voice chat should be nice, but I think everyone is kind of skeptical about how it will work. It just isn't what we had pictured in our heads. Plus it is overshadowed by the rest of the conference. I'm happy we're getting something though.

Look at Nintendo they arent trying to be like the rest of the competition, they are trying to be unique and different yes it could have been a headset but its not they did it for a reason and its not just for online game I bet its going to be used to create even more innovating titles that will be different from the rest of the consoles that what make Nintendo stands out they think out of the box.

Really, as soon as I heard "WiiSpeak" I was like "Holy ****!" yes, I was suprised in a good way.

I don't see the point in bashing it because it's late. Atleast we have the damn thing.

Because everybody wants Nintendo to do exactly what Sony and MS are doing, so they want a headset to have private arguments with foul mouth kids over a game of Madden.

I think thats why it will have a mute button, plus they'll probably let you only talk with friends

Wii Speak is the same as the Xbox headset, except you dont have to wear it. When playing on Xbox live the people around you may not be able to hear who you are talking to, but the person you are talking to can hear all the people around you. And yeah I'm positive that this will be a friends only thing, and I'm also sure that this is just the introduction of online chat. and 3rd parties will take this oppurtunity to give people the desired headset.

If this is as good as they are saying it is. I wouldn't be suprised if we used it as a gameplay element. i.e. voice controlled pikmin.

theirs no way im doing a backflip for this!!!

voice chat isnt a PRIVALEDGE to us gamers....this is something we DESERVE!!!! key word being deserve!!!

1)we deserve the option to have voice chat when playing are favorite games online, every other console gives their consumers, the option!!!! in fact the competition has been giving out this option since LAST GEN, and where just getting it NOW,years after wii's release, after SSBB and AFTER MK!!! -easily the wii's 2 biggest online games!!!

2) look at what they gave us!! a headset? NO!!! they gave us a mic, a kiddie freindly alternative to a headset that will work HALF AS WELL AS A HEADSET just so little kids parents can hear everything everyone says in a chat!!! HEADSET>MIC if u cant except this simple fact then ur just lying to urself!!!

3) Its 30bucks?!?!?! hell NOOO!!! 360 and ps3 let u use ur own (cell phone/laptop ) headset's so u dont have to dish out more mony just for a brand name one!!!! Not only are we paying more than the competition for voice chat BUT were not gonna get NEARLY as much use out of it as the competition!!! this is because the biggest online games have already been released without this function and you will probably need FC just to use it which is RETARDED!!! One of the whole points of voice chat is to talk to new gamers and make new freinds that like the same games u do!!!!! everyone i would have a fc for can just come over my house and play wii or talk on a cpu or phone, i dont need voice chat to talk to ppl i already can talk to freely!!!

So when ninty shows us their LAME, EXPENSIVE, and extremely LATE answer for voice chat im giving them ZERO credit! maybe next gen they can redeem themselves and just copy the voice chat standards established this gen!!!

Wii Speak was one of the only things i was hyped about from yesterdays conference. Im just hoping that every online game from now on has this feature in it, otherwise it would be pointless.

My PS3 MGS4 bluetooth headset cost me $59.99..The regular wired usb headset for PS3 cost $30 ..Its the exact same price...Only difference is that that one's a headset and this isnt..Still the microphone in this should have a better quality than regular ones so it evens out..

I don't know if anyone mentioned this but...

What if this Wii Speak only works with games that support it? I mean, I am hoping it works like any wifi game you have (even older ones) so that you can chat while you play Mario Kart Wii and Smash Bros. Brawl too. But, as with everything else, I guess we'll have to wait and see if it's what it's cracked up to be.

Hey, maybe this means Mario Vs. Wario and Hey you, Pikachu! will be released on VC to take advantage of it?

I don't know. I kind of like the idea of everyone in the room being able to speak into microphone. Although I can see how some sounds might not be the best to send to someone else, but I would find it amusing to hear that coming from the television and you being embarrassed because of it.
