Why couldn't they have made Zelda OoT for DS?

i mean they did it for Super Mario 64. I'd be happy if they made it for DS even with the nintendo 64 graphics.

I think they could put it on DS but its already on Gamecube and WiiWare. So people that want to play it by now have done so. If there is a technical restriction it would be size. Zelda OOT is a massive game, to play itI would guess you would see many loading screens.

Because they like money adn it'll make some people buy a 3DS.

And Mario 64 on DS kinda sucked, or so I've heard.

Because it wouldn't look well on the DS without having to downgrade the graphics, like they did with Mario 64 and Diddy Kong Racing.

It didn't suck, it was just limited by the DS hardware. No analog stick made the game hard to play, and the DS graphics were not as good as the ones from the N64.

because it gives the 3DS a great game real early. Also none of the other N64 to DS games were very good

The DS can't do texture filtering like the N64 could, so N64 games typically look like crap when ported to the DS. They probably didn't want to downgrade OoT.

Yeah its pretty much been said, the interface on the DS doesn't support it, the analog stick makes a world of difference as far as the interface goes. They probably just looked at it like putting it on the DS would not have benefited it, it probably would have been more of a downgrade than anything. They also probably would have had to change it to stylus control, which makes it tough, because that is probably what they will use for the items and the map and stuff.

So that there will be a great library of games for the 3DS which will equal to more sales of the system. =)

It did suck. Without solid 360 degree movement control, it just made the game far more difficult. A control nub would have been nice.

I never understood the complaints about using the D-pad for Mario 64 DS. The analog stick would've probably made it easier, but the only time I felt limited by the D-Pad was when I had to toss bowser onto the spike balls, and even then, it was only during the last throw that I felt it was an issue.

I really don't approve of the idea of remaking 3D games for a system that's clearly designed for 2D. 3D games almost always require a joystick to function well, and the DS has a Control Pad rather than a joystick. Having played Super Mario 64 DS and Metroid Prime Hunters, I can state that trying to move in 3D with a Control Pad scheme is pure hell. Oh, and about OoT vs. Super Mario 64, OoT isn't nearly as hard as Super Mario 64. But if Nintendo had remade it for DS, they would have made you play the entire game with the stylus just like Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.

It is good they did not. This will look much closer to the 64 one (even better though) then the DS would have been, as the resolution of the DS is not as good as the 3DS, and the analog stick makes a huge difference. This game deserves the best!

If a port of a game from a previous gen to a handheld is made worse than the original then in my opinion it should not have been made. Ocarina of Time will most likely be better than the original on the 3ds because of 3d, better textures, and possibly achievements on the system (although I doubt it), so it should be awesome.

No analog stick, and they might have had to downgrade the graphics, OoT was a quite a bit more graphically powerful than Mario 64.

Super Mario 64 DS has more polygons and some updated models. It was actually a graphical upgrade.

Because it needs a selling point which is 3D. Otherwise it would just have been a port whereas this is a remake.

Nintendo are reasonable milkers, not CoD annual milking-ish. They will only port something if it's reasonable. Like Pikmin1+2, Prime 1+2 as those titles all get significantly enhanced by Wii controls. They don't just randomly port. It's obvious that Nintendo is reaching for the hardcore crowd with 3DS, who says no to OoT remake.. ON THE GO!

Quickly I would like to say that I didn't find Mario 64 that challenging. Only once when spinning Bowser did the control scheme really show it's flaws, but OOT is a whole nother issue. It'd be like Phantom Hourglass but worse. Imagine having to jumble the touch screen, buttons and the D pad. 3DS has something similar, but better than psp's slider, which would allow for smooth control of the game, and less reliance on the touch screen to move/look/attack. Imagine trying to use the hookshot effectively with the D-pad.

Cases in point: The three Donkey Kong Country ports for the GBA, as well as Diddy Kong Racing DS. Hmm, why are Donkey and Diddy Kong getting all the poor port treatment?
