Why did I lose interest in MK online within one month?

I got Mario Kart on Christmas Day of last year along with my Wii. When I got it my best friend kept asking me to play online which I did. I really liked it at first, but then I started feeling the unrealism in the game. After I started getting the hang of power-drift it helped me for a little while. But then, I started to become inconsistent. I would win a race, and then lose a match. Win some, lose some. It really annoys me. How are you supposed to earn the right to be considered a good Mario Kart player. The player rating won't help because you could lose races you should have won, and win races that you should have lost. Tell me if you still play online. And if you do how often do you. Would you consider it to be the bestonline multiplayerexperience on wii? Or are you incredibly bored of it like me? AND PLEASE LOOK BELOW!

........you expected Mario Kart to be a sim..........

:|

Ok, well that's something

I guess because you're not good at the game you decided to give up on it?

From what you said that sounds like what happened

There are races that you get screwed over with and lose when you aren't supposed too, but if you are a good racer more often than not you will do pretty good. I'm fairly good and my score is about 8100, so it can happen.

The game has way too many cheap OP unavoidable power ups.. Thats why you really cant be considered a good player because someone whos played just for the first time can rocket into first with a bullet bill or screw you over with a blue shell and theres nothing you can do. Pretty much every mario kart has been like this in one way or the other since Mario Kart 64.. Super Mario Kart is the only one that can actually be played seriously imo other wise I wouldnt try getting good at it because its pointless

You bought Mario Kart without knowing that it's not supposed to be a realistic racer. You went into a game in which cartoon characters ride in go-karts expecting a realistic racer. And you seem to have lost interest simply because you don't win every single game.

I think that is about all that needs to be said. :P

Because when you get really good, you can't get screwed over. The players with high scores are so far in the lead then can be hit with a blue shell and multiple red shells and still finish with time to spare.

I just don't like how online is set up. I don't like the scoring. I wish it was like MKDS. MKDS online was fun. I like getting with people and having it scored like a GP (single player mode) instead of just doing random race after race. I know you can score like a GP if you play with friends but it's hard to get a bunch of friends together to do this so you're stuck playing the regular online mode.

It is basically a party game. Although you can try and form some kind of strategy, nobody knows how a race will unfold. It's not completely luck dependant, but you do require a lot of luck to win. If you can accept that, you'll enjoy the game a lot. If not, you're just going to be enraged lol.

You must lose interest in a lot of online games if that is the case. You are not always going to win every game. No matter how good you are. Lose is part of life. If you cannot deal with losing then you have a problem.

then I started feeling the unrealism in the game.

In Mario Kart you play as a cartoon character driving go-carts on fantasy racetracks. In Mario Kart you can drive off cliffs without dying. In Mario Kart you can attack opponents with banana peels, turtle shells, bombs and lightning. In Mario Kart you can become giant-size, or a bullet, or invincible. Why would you be mad because this game contains 'unrealism'?

The Wii version's online works better though since it can add and subtract new racers after every race. On MKDS you would usually wait until it connected 4 players then they would slowly drop out during the 4 races because they suck, so usually the game would just have 2 racers at the end or the game ended early. That wasn't really a good setup, mostly because it was Nintendo's first real online game. Mario Kart Wii has one of the best online setup of any game on any console (although voice chat would have made it much better for friend matches). Also luck is a big factor in Mario Kart but skill is really important too. If you are good you'll usually end up winning despite blue shells, and all the other horrible things that happen. It just sucks when you are near the finish line in first place, get hit by a blue shell, then get knocked off the cliff by a bullet bill ending the match in 10th place and losing 150 points (the higher your score is the worse your penalty), which can cause a little frustration. That's just part of Mario Kart though, the best and worst game ever made.

Mario Kart more than ever these days is blind fun. There is skill in it but not much is left. In 10 races you could lose 5 times to random items completely messing up a well executed run around a track. Unless the player is so much better that his lead makes it irrelevant to shoot him with blue shells you are going to constantly be trading first place with other players. Not because a close second place is beating you on turns, but because someone in 10th is pegging you with a random item.
