I've been trying to get a hand on this Japanese game, called "Sonomama" or something. But why do all these games have to cost like $50? I'm sure they're not valuable enough to be at that price but it's like a marketing strategy to make more money off of foreigners. Anyway I just bought the game from ebay (for the price) but yeah that svcks.

Play-Asia and other sites suffer from import tax and shipping fees, where as YesAsia.com does not!

Mainly because it's so expensive to actually import it over to the US.

I hate do hate when I go to a store, and see an abundance of imports. It's kind of cool though, how many stores now carry imports nowadays, but the price does get me. You'd figure that American developers would catch on to crap like this, and just translate the games already. If Jump Superstars and Bleach are selling in stores like they do at twice the price of a regular game, there's really no reason we shouldn't be seeing home versions.

Yeah I've seen the Yesasia.com place and no, the prices seem the same as everywhere else. That would be so stupid if you bought an American version of a game from there! So basically you're paying the extra international costs for a game you could get for 10 bucks less from the EB Games!

You answered your own question in your topic title.

Shipping costs money,  its not free to order a game on the other side of the planet.  Import Taxes and handling fees to go through customs also apply.

I remember buying a game from Japan once and what should have been 40 turned into 80.  Thats just the way it goes for Importing & Taxes on international shipping.  EVERYTHING goes through it.  not just gaming.

An import shop up here said it costs that much over there after conversion and tax and everything. Eh it's roughly around 50$ here, so what....I play my DS more than my Wii, so it's worth it. I also got an Enamel Navy DS Lite (180$ >.>). I've lately been overloading on Ouendan!.....when I close my eyes I see the circles with numbers in them 0_0. EDIT: Taxes I meant were like overseas taxes and stuff. They told me shipping wasn't a lot of money so they didn't include it in the price. Eh maybe I just wasn't paying attention because the kawaii (cute) asian chick there was explaining it to me ^_^.

In my experience you can expect to pay an extra $10-20 for an import game. I've heard many different explainations as to why, but the one which makes the most sense is that Japan's economy is weaker than our own. 1 yen is worth a lot less than 1 U.S. dollar, and so companies selling things in Japan have to jack up the price to make a profit, where as in the U.S. companies can make the same (if not a larger) profit from a cheaper pricepoint.

They are like the Amazon.com of the import game market

They cut the MSRP a tad bit so we don't need pay extra

plus there's no need to pay for import tax and shipping fee becuase YesAsia hasn't got any

Their shipping is free worldwide!

You gotta trust me!

Games are more expensive in Japan than in the US. I went game shopping in Japan and learned the hard way (with my wallet  ).

Bleach since the anime is being shown in the US and manga being sold in us stores the DS games could be on their way. It takes time for the license agreements etc. Perhaps next year it will be localized. It has a far better chance then Jump Superstars or the other Jump game on the DS. Those two games have characters from lots of series that either are not in the United States or Europe or are owned by lots of different companies. It's a hellish expierence just trying to license one or two series. Shonen Jump anime, manga efforts are handled by lots of various companies outside of Japan. So any Shonen Jump project with multiple series involved is a nightmare to license outside of Japan. That is just with two series being involved.
