Maybe you guys can help me comprehend this because I don't understand it. Why do people pay 90$ to work out? What really gets me is that any sort of exercises you can do with a wii remote and Nunchuck can certainly be done without it. You can always use a scale to see if you are losing weight or not. Can you guys help me to fathom this? I don't understand why I should pay 90$ for exercises that I can do at home for free. YOu can just spend 10 extra $ and get two good games for it. Do you guys think that NIntendo knows that soem people are suckers? :o

Because they like it? Personally I don't see what's great about Wii Fit as well but I do know that YOU are the sucker for not respecting other peoples opinion/taste on games.

lol but why would you pay 90$ to stretch when you can do it for free. I respect other peoples taste but to me this does not seem reasonable.

When it comes to other genres like sports that is reasonable becuase some people want to be a managers but simply aren't able to because of issues in life or w/e(or they are aspiring managers and want to practice beforehand).

In other fantasy games I am not able to flip 13 times in the air survive a barrage of bullets and save the world all in the space of 60 hours.

If i had a GOOD reason why people bougth Wii fit then maybe I would respect their tastes better.

You don't get any advise if You do it for free, and no balance feedback. WiiFit also tries to keep it a little interesting and tries to be motivating by checking up on You. It provides how-to's on a lot of exercises that You might otherwise need to look for and makes people realize what exercises they do are just a small part of the possibilities, and not all exercises need to be tiring to work. Most important thing is the balance feedback. Being more conscious about Your weight distribution can prevent a lot of problems.
For kids the games and stepping exercises works really well to tire them out so they become easier to handle (my little sisters)... I have WiiFit at home because my mom would never exercise on her own, and was too embarrassed to go to a gym or school.

The biggest loss is that there are no recommended schedules, when You input Your goals. They might fix that in WiiFit 2 though.
I'm not saying it is a great program, but the idea is great and there are certainly reasons for purchasing it.

Some of them think it is a fun game but I believe most Wii Fit buyers think it is going to make them fit.

The biggest loss is that there are no recommended schedules, when You input Your goals. They might fix that in WiiFit 2 though. I can practise kung fu for free but it is much harder than going to the school for feedback and new lessons.

Hmm I see your points, so let me sum them up -no embarrasment -tells if you are doing exercise correctly -Wii Fit can encourage you - no set schedule on the game (ATM at least) hmm well points 2 and 3 can easily be solved by having a relative or a freind who know a little bit about exercises. I could even help someone do exercies for free and I do not know much at all. I can easily tell soemone if they are offfbalanced just by looking and I can tell if they are doing certain exercises correctly or not. As for point #4 the only one who can set a schedule is you. You need to have disicipline when trying to get fit. If you cannot set your own schedule to follow then you cannot get fit. Point #1 is interesting as it saves you embarrasment of going to a gym. That migth be the one point where I see Wii Fit is okay. In conclusion Wii Fit is more convenient for some things but 90$ is still to heavy in this poster's opinion.

The same arguement could be used against the gym. Why pay when you can jog around the block for free?

Some people just enjoy it, so they can justify the price. It acts as a motivator of sorts, so they are more likely to stick with it. It doesn't make them suckers, it just means they have different taste to you.

I'm fine with different tastes so long as it is justified. Everyone that I have asked this quesion has not given me a decent answer(excluding this forum)

Come back after you tried out Wii Fit and other games that use the blance board. After you do the ski jump or actually learn how keeping your blance centered while doing yoga and what not makes it just that much more effective. Buying the Wii Fit makes alot of sense to alot of people. Its a good introduction to exercise and gets you off to a great start. Yes, people can go to gyms or buy treadmills or jog at the park or buy exercise videos or other equipment, etc, etc, etc. Wii Fit and the balance board fit right in, they make it fun and easy. Give it a try to see what it is actually about, cause you obviously don't know yet. You may still not like it, but its a good product. But stop ranting when you don't know enough about what you are ranting about. Try it out and then come with an actual opinion and not some loose assumptions.

Because its fun. It takes exercise and puts it in the form of a game making it seem less like work and more like relaxation. I would never think "Hey let me do 20 push ups" when im bored but i would think to play a video game. Plus $90 once is cheaper than a gym membership

I have it to play skateboard and snowboard games. my wiifit gets a lot of use and I never work out with it. it's a win win.. the gimmicky aspect gets mom's to buy it and then the kids can game on it. with the large install games devs will be tempted to create games for it. I am very happy with the bb as a gaming peripheral. I hope we see more support for it.

First off, like getting the Wii, lots of people got Wiifit simply to try out a new control scheme. Two, many men saw this as a good way to get their wifes to actually play a video game... Sure it was an expensive demo for a new control scheme and interesting to see where the 'workout' genre will start from... but I think curiosity got a lot of people to buy it, and the fact others thought it would be more practical than it really is are the rest of the sales...

There is no reason why anybody needs to justify their tastes in video games, especially not to a forum dweller. Looking down on people that enjoy the types of software you dont is rude and elitist, and only reinforces this ridiculous notion of hardcore and casual terms for everything from players to games to consoles.

How much do you reckon is spent on the game, and how much on the peripheral? You seem to think that Wii Fit = Balance Board. You pay for both. You get some light entertaining software, and a peripheral that can be used with a variety of games, although admittedly its potential is yet to be tapped. But like I said, I dont really need to justify my taste to please some randomer on the internet.

For me, the game is not really a game. However, the balance board is nice a periphical to others games.

If you ever played Wii Fit you'd know how fun it is, especially with a group of people. The fact that you're having fun and getting a bit of a work out is awesome, and that's why people buy it.

Because deep down; gamers all secretly long to be hot babes. Especially the men. Wii Fit promises this will happen. Only a rough thirty percent of players become hot babes though. :(

I completely agree with you. In my opinion Wii Fit is the single worst thing to have ever been spawned by Nintendo's console. Its, to me, first party shovel ware that sold ridiculously well. I also hate the balance board and how some other games try to make people use it. Its just plain terrible

The idea is to make exercise fun or give you your own personal trainer who can show you how to properly do the exercises to get the maximum investment out of your time.

I do not care about wii fit (no offense) but I do understand the consent... you can have a trainer without leaving home, or paying a gym. I`m one of those, without the trainer I do not do sessions... in matter of fact without the gym enviroment I do not even bother. Now with my schedule I have seen myself working out at home and bough a bike for the weekends I`m off... I like when I`m gaming to just sit and enjoy a controller, I do can not even go into games that have too much motion control. If I had the energy when I`m going to play to do anything else, I will go for a ride or so... Now for some ppl is quite nice, like I was saying... they get to do a routine with a trainer without leaving home or no matter what time it is or what they are wearing, they can actually enjoy this with someone else... so is a nice pick for that. Is the same as why fitness video sold so well in the past, but now with console/gaming is more interactive which make it better... Would I get it? most likely no... would I say never? no hope that answer you question..

I don't have Wii Fit... but I do have EA sports active, and really its the same people buy workout videos, to get/stay in shape! It's more convenient then going to the gym (or paying for it), and by selecting say a 20-minute workout, it gives me a balanced workout of whatever type I choose, makes sure I don't slack, and motivates me to workout. If you understand the purpose of workout videos and home gym equipment, then you shouldn't have a problem understanding why people would buy Wii Fit -- its the same thing just done through a console instead of a DVD player or a piece of equipment, or a gym for that matter.
