Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and Twilight Princess are all better games than The Wind Waker, in my opinion. That being said, The Wind Waker is still one of the best games I've ever played, but is brought down due to the tedious sailing. They could've implemented in a much better way than they did, and it just really brought the pacing to a slow, slow pace. Also, the Triforce Quest thing... Ugh... Why? Why? WHY!?
The Wind Waker had potentional to be the best Zelda game in the series, but there are a lot of issues that didn't have to be there that brought it down. Also, I didn't think the game really picked up until after "The Tower of the Gods" temple. I think that's what it's called.
Although possibly the best 3D Zelda title out there, most people weren't very attracted to the sailing sequences of it. That's the main reason.
The only other reason I can think of is the cel-shaded graphics.
Wind Waker is one of my favourite Zelda games. I don't understand why anybody wouldn't like it.
...and if it's because of the cel-shaded graphics - grow up.

I think disliking the art style of a game is a legitment reason to not like it. If you can't feel immersed in the world because of the graphics, then that might bring down your thoughts of the game. Some people disliked the art style of Twilight Princess for taking a more realistic approach. I don't see how this is any different.
I personally didn't mind it, but people overrated the graphics. Artistic water looks better than realistic water, but never was a moment that I would say, "Wow! If it wasn't for these games, I would enjoy this game nearly as much." It would've been fine looking like Ocarian of Time or Majora's Mask.

I understand your point, though I can't agree with anybody that dislikes the game simply because of it's graphics. That is choosing graphics over gameplay, which is a big no-no in my books.
But hey, to each their own, I suppose.
I hated it. It felt like a chore for me to finish.
I will explain my reasons.
I never had a gamecube, so finally when i got a wii i decided to borrow WW from my friend. I borrwed it like 1 year ago (maybe august or september 07)
The problem was i never got into the game. I kept buying new games for the wii (BWII, SMG, DBZ BT3) and i would stop playing WW, and play those new games. So if i did start up WW again i didnt remember what happened, and didnt remember what i had to do.
Then christmas came and i got guitar hero. (No WW for a couple of months). Then came brawl, and mario kart. Still havent beaten WW. Finally after a long time i started to play WW again (and only because i wanted to beat it. not because i really wanted to play it). I beat WW before the summer began. It took me almost 1 year but i accomplished it.
WW Was a chore for me, not a game.
It's a good game, and (as a whole) I like it,but I consider Wind Waker to be the worst of the franchise because of all the tedious, uncomfortable padding that is placed in between all of the great moments.VGobbsesserSo I'm guessing you liked Twilight Princess' dungeon to dungeon formula then? I don't like TP as much as WW for that. The Wind Waker felt more like an adventure with its formula whilst Twilight Princess felt more linear and boring. In WW you could be sailing and see a rock off in the distance, it's not marked on your map yet so you have to decide, do I continue to where I was going or do I take a little detour? Taking detours in WW never disappointed because something cool always happened and I felt that TP did not give these kinds of opportunities like WW did. The Wind Waker felt like a much more epic adventure than TP.

he speaks the truth
This, about half of the people haven't played the game only because its cel-shaded,really people, also because of sailing.Although possibly the best 3D Zelda title out there, most people weren't very attracted to the sailing sequences of it. That's the main reason.

it sounds like it was your own fault for not liking it
WW is the best Zelda ever! The sailing was not tedious and the Triforce quest was great, it forced you to play the sidequests(which were the best in a Zelda game, mind you). The story was good, and though I would've liked another dungeon or 2, the pacing was near perfect, as well.
EDIT: It also introduced the famous parry tecnique.

That's not a legitimate reason to hate a game. That is your fault for buying new games before finishing it. If I buy a new game before finishing one I'm currently playing, I always end up ditching that game. Not because I hated the game, but because I've moved on.
I personally felt that WW was my favorite of the series. It was unique, it stood out, and the world had a much more interesting atmosphere (I really liked the npc's in the game).
If you play the game from the beginning, and don't buy other games while you're playing it, you'll find out what makes it great.
People hate wii as its not a a gamers console and it generaly sucks out load and has no good games
We have a Wii in our house and no one plays it as its boring

I never said the reason was legitament. It's just what happened. Im sure if i played it the entire way through i would like it. It still probably wont be my favourite
