Well, the biggest "why not" would be... Pokemon is aimed at very, very young gamers. i, myself am over 20 and am looking for a reason to buy this game. so i ask, Why?
I'm almost 23 and I don't understand why everyone is convinced that pokemon is childish. There is quite a bit of strategy that goes into building a viable team and it's also a great rpg. I don't care if it's based on a bunch of funny looking creatures. That doesn't make it childish.
I've been playing it pretty consistently ever since red and blue and I still enjoy playing it.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=i5BWYMzJ2Bg heres the TV ad, and not to metion the cartoon... but the over all theme for pokemon is 'for kids' you can't blame people for thinking its for kiddies. thats how its marketed. i have an open mind tho... and i might give in and try it out.

Basing your decision off the cartoon is not a good idea. The general consensus on these forums is that the cartoon sucks and the games are awesome. I realize that may not be true for everyone, but that's what a lot of posts have said about pokemon.
Its a good game, it doesn't matter what age you are. People just consider it kiddy because they remember pokemon from when they were kids or remember their kids watching it. Granted, the show is pretty kiddy now, but the game is not, it is a solid rpg that doesn't suggest anything about who its being aimed for. Everyone should be able to enjoy this game and if you are detoured because you think the game is kiddy and your to old for it, well then you are obviously insecure about your maturity.

You're making to much of a connection between the good game and the lame cartoon.

No, it's true :P. The cartoon is meh but the games are very good.
The cartoon is based towards young kids but the game has none of it's stupid humor or kiddy themes it's just a very fun RPG with some pokemon to catch.
It's fun to battle friends. I remember battling my friends 4 way in rubysapphire with my friends.Â
Pokemon is just plain fun. Lots of features to go with multiplayer options(contests, battling, underground, ect) And i almost forgot about the secret bases and battle tower :)
