Well, not everyone... but a lot of people have had some negative things to say about them. Are they really that bad? I was thinking of picking up both now that I have a fancy Zelda 3DS.

But why? What's so bad about them? They actually look really awesome to me (I loved Wind Waker). It's not really that people hate the games in general, it's that compared to most other Zelda games, they kind of suck.

The Zelda DS games are so outrageously decent. Just the amount of effort for them was just enough. They were the okest ok games from okvill that they won the okay award in the festival of overall fineness. They made just the right impact to know that you played them but forgot exactly what happen. They were just so there that they were noticeable.
I don't care for touch screen controls , and I've always liked the over head look rather than the 3D dungeons which is why many of the Zelda games don't intrest me.Well, not everyone... but a lot of people have had some negative things to say about them. They're great games, but most of the complaints are:
I'd still give them a 9/10.
They were nothing special. Even with the Zelda franchise, the magic and greatness that springs at just the sound of the name, they still couldn't make a proper game that was immersive and good like the rest. Neither of them appealed to me or made me want to finish them. I simply bought it because it had Zelda written on it and they stand as a reminder at how stupid I still am.
I loved phantom hourglass it is one of the most revolutionary zelda games, I liked the temple of the ocean king. Spirit Tracks took the good of PH and made it worse
As I said, it's not that they're bad, it's that they aren't as good as most other Zelda games. I actually rather like them, aside from the Temple of the Ocean King and the fact that the controls are kind of... Not bad, but I prefer motion or traditional controls, I guess.
Because they called me all sorts of nasty names.
I just hated the way they played. Just wasn't fun at all.
While obviously a few people do hate them, I think the majority just find them to be "okay" games. The Zelda franchise is known for being exceptional in most respects, so while the DS games aren't generally "hated", they're considered some of the weaker entries in the franchise.
Personally, I also thought that they were just alright. Some complaints I agree with, others I don't... but I still found them worth playing through. They're not bad games, but I do think they could have been done better at the same time.
Honestly that one repetitive temple and having to completely control link with the stylus was bunk to me. i know we have a touch screen, but that doesnt mean EVERYTHING has to be done like that. sometimes your hands would even get in the way of the screen, it was a little too much of "lets use complete touch screen control cause we can" instead of "lets use touch screen control for things that make sense or that really improve the gameplay."
I thought they where great personally. Not my favourite Zelda games but still fantastic fun. I think revisiting temples in SS is more annoying than The Temple Of The Ocean King ever was but even that doesn't bother me too much, it's a minor thing compared to some JRPG backtracking!

ive loved nearly every zelda game since alttp, but this backtracking was the worst id ever seen in the series. usually you go back to a place where there are lots of secrets that with your new found gadgets and abilities you can acquire, and it's exciting. the temple of the ocean king was one of the worst things ever put into a zelda game.

Don't get me wrong I'd definitely have prefered new, different temples. It just didn't bother me much and I quite liked the temple overall. It was quite a nice concept for a one off but if they did it in another game I'd probably be pissed.
Um, I've played Ocarina. Several times. The DS games are some of the few Zelda games I haven't played (along with Minish Cap). That's why I'm interested in them.Play Ocarina of Time 3D, and you'll learn why. They have no body, spirit and mind of their own. they're fun games, but not what Zelda is about...

The general consensus is that Spirit Tracks is the superior of the two, but I only actually bothered finishing PH. And then I felt kinda, meh.
If I were to say Phantom Hourglass is my 4th or 5th (not sure about SS yet) zelda game, would I get banned from GS???

I don't like it have to say, it's a Japanese style game, that's the reason why it gets so popular in Japanese players.
Wind Waker was incredible. A sublime experience. PH was bland and terrible. I basically bought my XL to play the Zelda games and was severely disappointed in PH. ST was better, had a much better narrative, etc... but I still couldn't finish it due largely to the aweful touch controls.Because they're Wind Waker haters. Since the DS games are the continuation of the Wind Waker story and style, it's a no-brainer they're gonna hate those too. jk :P ;)
