Why does the Wiimote aim a little lower than where you point it?

When you look down the remote you can see the curser on the screen is a little lower. Why does it do that? A light gun can aim perfectly but why not the Wiimote?

It depends where your sensor bar is placed. For it to aim exactly at the middle of the screen, when you are, then you'd have to place the sensor bar right there - At the middle of the screen.

Traditional light gun is accurate since it actually use your screen for reference (see wikipedia on operation principle). Newer lightgun games, such as HOTD4 or Time Crisis 4 DX, use two rows of LED. While they are more accurate at pointing then wiimote (since it use more reference points), compare to old CRT light guns, it's still a bit off. In both case, in order to get accurate reading, you will have to calibrate it.

I think it is just a matter of time before they have a calibration type thing to make it right on.  Kind of like zelda has, but good.  I never really end up pointing the remote like a gun since my arm gets tired, but usually have it down resting on my lap like a lazy bum, so i don't find it to be a problem.

Well you should atleast be able to set in the menu the position and size of your tv so it's as accurate as possible. It might work eh?

Like some one said. Light guns reference the screen, the Wii remote references a sensor bar placed on the top or bottom of your tv. I think for the Wii remote to work like that, it would need to be remade.

The Wiimote is a lot closer to a mouse than a light gun, you should not use the Wiimote like a lightgun so it doesn't really matter if the pointer is slightly off centre, that is until a light gun game is actually released.
