Why does Wii have to be called Wii and pronounced "we"? You will learned, so you will feel less like a geek when you say "Hey, you wanna play on my Wii?" Instead of "Hey, you wanna play on my Xbox 360?" "Hey, you wanna play on my PS3?". It's for family, and for people to get together and unify. Also, Nintendo can smell that sweet sweet green flowing around them. Also, so I can, and you guys can TOO! say stuff like Wii-Wii, "Wanna play with my Wii?". yes, you know what I mean. WIIIIIII-WIIIIII!

Maybe it was intentional. Maybe they wanted to scare off the kind of people that are more worried about what other people think and sounding and looking cool than playing a fun game. The kind of people that call Nintendo to "kiddy" because they're worried their friends might laugh at them for playing it.

this is such a small thing to complain about... I dont care if they called it the Nintendo CrapBox, as long as it works and its awesome that all that matters... I would much rather have the most fun current gen system then the on ewith the best name.

The two i's in "Wii" resemble two people playing with eachother or something like that. It's pronounced the way it is because it sounds like "we" meaning anyone can be a gamer.

Lol I haven't seen a thread like this since 06.

Actually, the Gamecube's codename was "Crapbox", but they figured it would deter many gamers...I guess "Gamecube" didn't fare too well either, now that I think about it.

Gamecube ruled IMO; the name was ok but I loved the system and the games. Sure there may have not been the commercial "Blockbusters" the PS2 had but the ones that it did have (Zelda WW, RE4, Paper Mario TYD, Tales of Symphonia, MP1 and 2, plus pretty much the same Madden games in terms of quality) = Hours and hours of great times. I still play GC games on the Wii as much as Wii games. That will start to change soon though once I finish Paper Mario TYD and get Galaxy

No, followed by no, with more no added for color.

Search for Revolution and what results do you get?

Search for Wii and what comes up then?

Wii is short and to the point. When they announced it I thought they must have been smoking some exotic cigaretes, but once you get used to it you can see why they chose it. Xbox 360 and PS3 both sound so over the top. Xbox 360 sounds too big, over the top and american, and PlayStation 3 sounds like an over the top name for a kids playground.

They named it the Wii to get you talking about it and notice it. Just by having this discussion proves the strategy successful.

You said you'd sound less like a geek if you said "Do you want to play on my XBox 360?". To be honest, in my opinion, The 360 and PS3 are more for serious gamers, which some would call geeks.. And the Wii isn't really too serious, so even though its called Wii it doesn't really sound geeky.

It just grows on you. Like when it was called the Revolution and then the name change to the Wii, I thought it was hilarious. But now when I think about it, the Revolution was crap.

Didn't have as many of those blockbusters due to it not appealing to casual gamers like the Playstation 2 did.

It was supposed to be called the Revolution if i remember correctly.... but i guess because the litteral meaning of revolution is to make change using either violence or controlling the people of a country.... thats a really good name if you want the people to fear your console :)

It was never supposed to be called Revolution. It was just a project name when it was in development. Just like the gamecube was called "dolphin" and the N64 was called "Project reality" before they recieved their final names.

Whenever the "kiddy" argument comes up, everyone gets so defensive for Nintendo and Wii. For some reason, people think that when people say that the Wii is kiddy, they assume that it is because of concerns about looking cool or something. I think that the Wii is kiddy a lot of the time, but there are some good games. When I say its kiddy, it has nothing to do with how I would look playing them, but has everything to do with how much fun I would have playing them. Lets face it, at some point everyone gets to the age where Barney and friends is too young, infantile. Likewise, when a game is tailored for a younger audience because of its difficulty and depth, older people are gonna call it kiddy. Bascially, don't get so defensive if some people think the Wii has a lot of kiddy games, because it does.

I called mine Richard. Each time my friends were over I'd ask "Hey guys, you wanna play on my Dick?"

But seriously, it's like being called a certain name at school. Each time you indicate that you hate it, the kids will call you that name even more. But as soon as you turn around as say "Y'know, guys, your right. I am pretty retarted." they'll stop calling you that name.

This is what Nintendo have done. Except showing how annoyed they are at being called "kiddie" they go with the flow and show that they don't give a camels behind with a name such as 'Wii'.
It's grown on me. I like it.

I hate the name Wii i think it was called that so little kids could ask for it. Wii does sound like something a little kid would say, and its all part of Nintendos plan to take over. I like the name Revolution more than Wii, and i agree Wii does sound geeky.

Because little posts like this won't change a thing, and Nintendo can do whatever they want. People will buy anything as long as it attracts them.

Another reason why they didn't go with Revolution is because it is too similar to Xbox 360.

360=full turn (360 degrees...get it?)

Revolution=full turn (a spin...see where I'm going with this)
