Maybe it was intentional. Maybe they wanted to scare off the kind of people that are more worried about what other people think and sounding and looking cool than playing a fun game. The kind of people that call Nintendo to "kiddy" because they're worried their friends might laugh at them for playing it.decepticondevil
Well said!!!!!!!!
this is such a small thing to complain about... I dont care if they called it the Nintendo CrapBox, as long as it works and its awesome that all that matters... I would much rather have the most fun current gen system then the on ewith the best name. ag1052
Crapbox sounds cool.
The two i's in "Wii" resemble two people playing with eachother or something like that. It's pronounced the way it is because it sounds like "we" meaning anyone can be a gamer.
Lol I haven't seen a thread like this since 06.

Actually, the Gamecube's codename was "Crapbox", but they figured it would deter many gamers...I guess "Gamecube" didn't fare too well either, now that I think about it.
they should have stayed with Revolution cuz thats mainly what it is and they should have kept with the black color dalejr88
No, followed by no, with more no added for color.
Search for Revolution and what results do you get?
Search for Wii and what comes up then?
Wii is short and to the point. When they announced it I thought they must have been smoking some exotic cigaretes, but once you get used to it you can see why they chose it. Xbox 360 and PS3 both sound so over the top. Xbox 360 sounds too big, over the top and american, and PlayStation 3 sounds like an over the top name for a kids playground.mattyftm
I like that lol, funny comparison.

The Gamecube was codenamed Dolphin.
You said you'd sound less like a geek if you said "Do you want to play on my XBox 360?". To be honest, in my opinion, The 360 and PS3 are more for serious gamers, which some would call geeks.. And the Wii isn't really too serious, so even though its called Wii it doesn't really sound geeky.
It just grows on you. Like when it was called the Revolution and then the name change to the Wii, I thought it was hilarious. But now when I think about it, the Revolution was crap.
Gamecube ruled IMO; the name was ok but I loved the system and the games. Sure there may have not been the commercial "Blockbusters" the PS2 had but the ones that it did have (Zelda WW, RE4, Paper Mario TYD, Tales of Symphonia, MP1 and 2, plus pretty much the same Madden games in terms of quality) = Hours and hours of great times. I still play GC games on the Wii as much as Wii games. That will start to change soon though once I finish Paper Mario TYD and get Galaxyroboccs
Didn't have as many of those blockbusters due to it not appealing to casual gamers like the Playstation 2 did.
It was supposed to be called the Revolution if i remember correctly.... but i guess because the litteral meaning of revolution is to make change using either violence or controlling the people of a country.... thats a really good name if you want the people to fear your console :)WhoAmIAgain
It was never supposed to be called Revolution. It was just a project name when it was in development. Just like the gamecube was called "dolphin" and the N64 was called "Project reality" before they recieved their final names.

i think you are mistaken the proper name is "lunchbox"
When I told my parents I wanted a wii, they replied with
'' We won'tget you*Wiid* for christmas.... ''
I lol'd and mocked their stupidity.

somethin like that happened to me i was at the store and asked and employee where the wiis were and he told asked (do you mean weed (as in the movie i think)
well they named it the wii because it was small, simple, and a personof any language could say it. Another reson is as the word wii to be a symbol of we can all play. Makes since right?ButIthought that old joke about was already over a year ago i mean srsly thats kinda stupidand imatureto say so just getit over with.Heres a comic to show you.
Just because the system is called "Wii" doesn't mean you have to call it that. I've named mine "Charlie" and that's what I always call it.AdRock92
