My opinion is that they have to make nhl games for more popular systems like Xbox 360 cause not everyone likes hockey enough to buy a hockey game.

Definitely, I mean u have a stylus and in hockey you use a stick. You can't make a game out of that. Shame........EA has been dissing nintedo with terrible wii games, and missing games on the ds, but maybe it's not EA who makes it...............

No normal sports games at all on the DS. Maybe 5 at the very most.

That'd be great, even if it looked like NHL 2000 or something, i'd take anything. Yeah, we only have Madden, FIFA, and Tiger Woods. I'd like NHL 09 on the DS.

Man, I'd take a nice version of NHL 94. That was the best NHL gameplay wise. I still play it today.

I agree with you, an updated version of 94 with the 2008-09 rosters, teams, etc.. that'd be kickass.

Those "updates" are why many sports games arent made.

Because of the amount of "renditions" sports games go through, alot of companies look at sales / trade in ratios and usually alot of you sports fanatics trade in your copy of say NHL 04 as soon as 05 is out.
Therefore it may not be viable for some companies to repeatedly make expenditure on slight alterations.

On larger consoles its plausible as their "maximum" price tag is around £50. The DS's is around £30.

Good question. It may work pretty well with the stylus.

You and me man. I can give a rat's a$$ about the stylus. I think many of these games suck because they feel that they have to use the stylus for something. That's not to say that the touchscreen is useless, just don't let it be a big part of the gameplay like Mario Basketball. Anyway, you're right. Take NHL 94, update the rosters, fix the goalies and the AI and you'll have a great game. I actually had to buy Fifa for my DS since that's the closest thing to a good game of hockey as I could get. :(

There's always the new Backyard Hockey game:lol:

But seriously, that would work. The reason why it's not there to begin with is because EA doesn't see a market for the franchise on a handheld. I think the last NHL game to reach a Nintendo portable was NHL 2000 on the GameBoy Colour. As for stylus control, i could see EA doing two things: 1. they go all-out and make it completely stylus-based, or 2. they only make certain parts stylus-based, such as shootouts or something.

I really do like portable sports if they're decent (hell, i enjoyed Madden 06 on the DS), because i don't have to commit myself to sitting in one spot for a long time to play it, and i can take it wherever. Here's hoping 09 happens. I've never been a big fan of petitions and things, but maybe if we all e-mail EA to let them know of the demand for some portable NHL, it'll get to their heads. Aggressive marketing of the game, especially in Canada, could really sell some copies.

I think it's because hockey as a sport isn't followed that greatly (mainly Canada, Europe, and US...although barely). I have to admit, out of all of the EA sports games, it's the most fun to play out of any sports game out there except soccer, IMO of course.

Ya why not. Have the score board on one screen and the gameplay on the bottom screen. NHL would be great on the DS.

Man, I'd send a petition, no problem. I know hockey isn't that big of a sport in the US, but it's still more popular than soccer in the US. I think the reason the old NHL games did so well back in the day was not because hockey was popular, but instead because the gameplay was awesome... oh, and it was in the movie Swingers. But really, make a good game with great gameplay and fans will buy it. I think a nice port of NHL 94 to a handheld is an awesome idea. I don't care about the players being in 3d either. It's a handheld, not a next gen console.
