Why not play VC games on their regular systems?

when i go on WII shop and see these overpriced games,it frustrates me.i mean, Mario Bros. for $5 bucks.im sure a majority of you still have NES and SNES systems still, why not play the games on that?i can go to the pawn shop or flea market and get a Nintendo game for 1-2 dollars, why pay five to eight?do ppl just want to download so they can use the Wii?or to lazy to hook up your old system?there is maybe 4-5 games i can think i would really purchase via Wii shop.

im sure alot of you dont/didn't have a NES/SNES,but for the same price of a few VC you can find a system and games.

plus there are tons of ppl who use emulators...why pay so much for something you can get so much cheaper for?

I like the fact you can have anything on one system, when I go places I don't have to lug around all this stuff, just one console. It's not like I am gonna be buying every single game they bring out, just ones I really want. Besides 5 to 10 dollars every once and a while isn't really that bad at all.

some ppl feel bad about stealing from something they respect. Most ppl that use an emulator don't use it for something they already own.

1.  Convenience - It sounds lazy, but it is nice to have these games on one machine. Downloading is a nice convenience.

2.  Even if you own every system, Chances are you dont own every game (although if you still own every system, it wouldn't surprise me if you own most of the games :)

3. Some of these games may not be that easy to track down anymore. although ebay would probably make it much easier.

4. IMO emulators suck. I would rather play my old favorites with my favorite traditional controllers.

5. If you don't want to pay it, don't buy it. nintendo isn't forcing you to buy these things. Go ahead and get your old systems out, go to your flea market, and good luck trying to find the games.

I still own all of the old systems and I find this to be so much easier. I am tired of going through all of the hassle of getting a NES game to work. I would much rather just get into a game then spending the time to get the game working and then sit there hoping that the game doesn't spaz out. It is also easier to gather the old games that I want.

Not everyone has the old consoles. For example, I don't have SNES which was indeed my favourite. Now if you wanted to go find the old games for your old consoles, it'd be harder. Emulators are illegal and for many people (also including me) find it unethical. Besides, emulators kinda stink because they just don't have the feel that makes them so great.

VC is a great idea and if you don't like it, don't use it.

my parents sold our NES around six months before I started gaming so I never got to play those games and I came close to wearing out my SNES controllers with constant Donkey Kong, Mario and Kirby. My N64 now chronically overheats when in play. (I also wore out my ps2 forcing me to get a slim but whatever)
For those reasons I am glad that the Virtual Console exists and is worth my money.

I'd rather play the VC version, so I don't have to blow out the cartridge and bang the NES console 57 times just to get to the title screen, have the NES freeze up, have to blow out the cartridge and beat on the NES about 22 more times, then 20 minutes later finally be able to play the game!

because most of us that are 20 and younger, never really got a chance to play an NES, SNES and for those of us that did, we weren't the gamers we are now so we'd like a second chance to beat games that we could never beat..... :)

1. Not everyone had the old systems and those who did didn't buy every game.

2. The old systems won't work forever and the cartridges aren't reliable.

3. Nintendo is greedy and likes to sell their consumers the same games and systems 3 times.

I suppose so much and so cheaper are relative terms. My time is more important to me than money. I'd rather not be wasting my time tracking down a game at the pawn shop or bidding away on ebay, when I can have the game within minutes on the VC. And, once I have it, it's extremely convenient to "click" a game and be able to play it. I don't have to swap cartridges, worry about save batteries, or troubleshoot the game to make it work with the cartridge.

VC = Wireless-controller ready versions of my own favourites without all the huffing & puffing hassle to get the damned things running more than 10min without freezing up.

With that in mind, regarding legal routes, there's the handy session-saves, and the 480p support for cleaner display, something you couldn't get on their respective consoles.  Hated the old NES games that had password saves, or long periods of time between save points, or none at all......same for SNES titles.

old console controllers wear down over time and all my N64 controllers are crap, and you can't buy new ones, plus it's convenient to have all the games on one console, my living room is already cramped with a 360, wii, and PS2, hooking up a NES, Genesis, SNES, ect, would involve to many controllers around the room, and to many wires and power supplies. Plus, I don't have to go to Gamestop and hunt for old games, or search the internet and end up paying more for shipping than I do for a used game I'm not even positive still works. Old systems break down over time as well, why buy another NES,and have to put up with blowing into the cartridges in a year. All in all it comes down to convenience, & I am willing to pay for that.

You just assume that everyone who has a wii owns all five of those consoles and every game on them?

Well, games like Super Mario RPG and Super Metroid are coming out. Good luck finding a game like Super Mario RPG for less than 8 dollars.

You're not really thinking like a casual gamer here. How many people who are buying the Wii do you think have ever even played most of these old consoles? I know at least three people who have either never played videogames before Wii or stopped playing years ago. These are the main people Nintendo are going for with the VC, well and also the hardcore fans who will buy anything Nintendo related *cough* like me. I own all these past consoles and most of the games on the VC, hasn't stoped me from buying them again. It's fun, have fun with it!

Well, I download VC games because they are games I don't want to have to go out and find. It's not that I just "want to do something like download" with my system.   Despite your guarantee, not every pawn shop has the VC games you want for less than the price Nintendo is charging.  Some of these shops may have some of these games, but it's hit or miss.  Likewise on the systems if you don't happen to own them.
I get output quality I could never get on the original systems, progressive scan looks better.  Sure it's the same game, but it looks better.  I'll pay a couple bucks for that.
If that's your thing, digging around to find older systems and games, and dealing with their shortcomings, that's great.  More power to you.  But no matter what you say, not everyone can find the games they want this way.  The supply is limited, and they aren't making more coppies.  If you've got a Wii, you can now get a copy of these games.  You don't have to leave the house (or even couch), you can use a nice wireless controller, why not?
Don't put in the emulator argument, if you can't understand why, it's not worth explaining to you.

Obviously not everyone has the old systems, nor do older gamers have systems that actually still work. And no, you cannot buy just any game at a pawn shop for 3 bucks, that is just flat out not true. You should have seen the eBay prices for Super Metroid and Super Mario RPG before they were announced for VC, they were much more than $8. $5 is not that much to pay for a game. Sure money does not grow on trees, but I think most people can agree that $5 is not a huge dent in someone's finances.

I love buying vc games for the simple fact I can play games all on one system, wii, gc, snes, nes. That and I don't own alot of the games on vc, or like reggie186 said, it's all about convenience.

I won't download anything if I already have the original because then there's no reason to hook up the old system ever again, you can't beat using the original controller and retro perspective.

You are nuts most people do not have a NES still and many never had the chance because they are younger. For primium games $5 is well worth it, also if you have a NES do you want to sit there and blow in it and shake it just to see a blue scree cause the damn thing does not work.

My NES and N64 broke a while ago, and even if it didn't, blowing into the games for a while just to play them gets a little irritating (goes for the SNES as well).  More importantly in a small dorm room I don't have the room for all of these systems to be hooked up to my tiny tv, so I would much rather just not have to hassle with all of it.  I guess another reason is that some of the batteries in my carts are starting to die on me, so I woud rather not spend money on a game that I don't know if it'll work for a prolonged period of time.

However, I do understand where the TC is coming from.  I would much rather play the games on their original system just because that's how I grew up playing them.  It's a shame that as a child I didn't take better care of the games so they would last over the years.

Actually, I don't have my NES and SNES anymore. My parents made me get rid of them when I got the N64. Also, the Game Boy Advance version of Super Mario Bros is $10 in Target. It's almost a perfect emulation but it's worth $10. So $5 on the Shop Channel is a lot better than that isn't it. And maybe some people are too lazy to hook up their system again because it could be in storage or something. The main purpose they made the VC channel is for new gamers who never did play the older version of games. This is letting them get the games easier.

The majority of them DONT have the old systems. They cost as much if not more to buy the old games, and the convenience of having them on the WIi is excellent. I don't want to hook my SNES, NES, etc up to my HDTV, it's just too much hassle.
