Indeed. People just like to hate stuff.
Almost all of these haters, don't know their facts. Many of my friends who attempted to hate on the DSi said, "All they did was add a camera, and get rid of the GBA slot!". Once I point out that it has 4 times the amount of ram then the DS Lite, the improved CPU, and that there is DSi Ware and future DSi-only games, they shut up.
I don't think it's hate so much as merit. Nintendo drops resources and money on a console they want to make more money on. This is understandable, but the DSi just isn't really all that special. It has some fun new features and unique qualities to it, but from my personal perspective, it just seems like yet another translation of the same basic system.
I would rather have Nintendo make the most out of what they already have and put the DSi resources towards making the true next step of the handheld.
Is the DSi a good handheld? Of course. Do you really need it if you already have a regular DS? Well, I have yet to find a decent enough reason to warrant another purchase and this is probably why many people sympathize.
If you don't have a handheld or have never experienced a DS at all, by all means, go get one. But if you've been there done that, it seems a little unnecessary.
people just don't like what they can't understand, the DSi is the twilight of the DS platform, much like the GBC to the GB. (hence why the DSi was code named TWILIGHT and on the serial number of DSis it starts with TWL)
"People don't like what they can't understand." Lol. We're not talking about what happens after death, we're talking about a tangible, not hard to understand object. What you said doesn't make any sense...people just don't like what they can't understand, the DSi is the twilight of the DS platform, much like the GBC to the GB. (hence why the DSi was code named TWILIGHT and on the serial number of DSis it starts with TWL)

I already caught them all on Diamond so all I need to do is trade them over!! I like my DSi because of it's new features!!
I only dislike the DSi simply because you can't use A.R. (Action Replay) in it. Luckily I can just transfer the Wi-Fi to my DS Lite so that way I can cheat (not in multiplayer btw, just in the game). Of course I'd still use the DSi to take pictures and stuff.
There are going to be games that are just for the DSi?
Like they wont even have versions for the lite and stuff?

Yes. Welcome to February 2009.
While this may be true for some people, others don't have a DSi because they don't want to buy it since they're happy with their Lite/Phat but I know you're joking :P Still, it's no reason for people to "hate" the DSi :?The simple answer is this: They don't have one. :P

The only reason people hate the dsi is simply because there isn't a gba slot. If it had a gba slot people would be buying like crazy. I think people should stop living in the past. Even though u can't play gba on the dsi u can play it on the gamecube, the sp, or the advance.DolphinZ23
this. people wouldn't whine as much if it did, but i don't see why it needs it
PokeMon fans won't need the GBA slot anymore since Nintendo is making PokeMon Heart Gold and Soul Silver (based in Johto region and i think you can travel to the Kanto region also) which will probally have all the pokemon from those two regions maybe more!

Okay,let me try this:
Name to me one current feature or one current great killer app game that would make me want to buy a DSi.
And don't tell me "The DSi is more powerful than the DS,so better games will come" or "DSiWare has potential;" I want to know what is available now.

Sometihing that plays DS games.
If you care about now, and not the past you wouldn't care about the GBA slot, now would you?
Or is that not why you've got your undies in a bunch...?
i played my friends dsi, but it really isnt worth the extra $100, particularly if you dont have wireless internet, which cuts out half the new featuresDryMaster
You mean extra $40? If it was $100 more, it would never be worth it. =/
I don't think anything would.
And the post above this one there's more then cameras, but I agree, without wi-fi you pretty much get nada with either of the systems.
idk my b-day is tomorrow:D and im going to get a DSi was that i good decision(the last small console i got was the gameboy advance) so i wanna up-grade the whole way not just halfway(DS-lite)
I bought the DS Lite on the day the DSi was released. The main reason was the GBA slot, the price, and well, it's good enough, so why pay more? I figured we wouldn't be seeing too many games requiring DSi's power, so I figured I might as well save some cash and just get the lite. The lite on its own is a fine machine. Just because a newer version's out doesn't make the lite trash all the sudden. It's still enjoyable even with the knowledge that it isn't the newest. I don't hate the DSi, but I figured the support just wouldn't be there, so why bother.

If you've already looked hard enough and don't find Dragon Quest Wars, Ghost Wire, Mario vs DK to be good enough $5 to $8 solid games, then cool. It seems you already have an opinion formed that won't change, I don't know why you'd ask me to convince you of something you may already have all the answers too.
My statement was never directed at you, i just said if the DSi had a GBA slot there would be no reason to dislike it. I mean you'd have 2 gen old games, DS games and DSi games. I don't see the problem in that. Like another user said, the DSi purchase is worth it alone for the DS library itself, and i understand you have a DS already. So you don't need it until something convinces you to move into the new generation and play the DSiware games, etc.
I didn't decide to buy a PS3 until there were enough games that made me want it. So i stuck with my PS2 for the first 12 months PS3 was out. Those things take time. Its the start of the DSi's life, and nothing appeals to you about it, so?
Thats fine. Thats great.
I can tell you that having a new way to play games like WarioWare, and Augmented Reality games with the Camera seems very exciting to me, i'm happy Nintendo put in a new form of user input in this DSi. I enjoy that. I also enjoy the music, photo software. It amuses me. Most of all i enjoy the great games on DSi ware. The ArtStyle series is amazing and there are others i've downloaded that i've really liked. DSiware has a lot mroe good games than people give it credit for, esspecially for within a 100 days of launch.
Thats what i like about the Nintendo DSi, it plays DS games and a slew of other DSi games that i am enjoying. I don't know what kind of games you like personally so I can't recommend any of the great puzzle, action, sports, or platformers on DSi ware to you.
And once again, why did you decide to quote me and ask me that? I was just discussing how differently i think gamers' attitudes towards the DSi would be if it had a GBA slot
Truth is, i'd buy a DS lite without a GBA slot, because i like playing DS games. I understand its purpose to help secure the 3rd pillar that was the DS (just as the DSi is the third pillar to the DS) to help people wait until good DS games came out, but now its 2009 the GBA is dead to me and i'm over loaded with great DS games to play. I could care less personally about the Game Boy Advance and shouldn't all GBA discussions in this board not be here but in the legacy platform? all GCN discussions don't take place in the Wii board because it belongs in the legacy board
It delayed nintendo's next handheld. It's not worth 200 bucks No GBA games/ extensions for games like guitar hero. Not much of an upgrade - the DS Lite was pretty much the best they could make it, extra features feel tacked on and unnessesary.Apocalypse97
1. i wouldn't say it delayed it. we know nothing about it really. nintendo said they cancelled a new handheld "within the last 3 years" so that could've been DS lite release too. Nintendo does this every gen, the third version of the handheld gets a little extra love as a new platform (with exception of GBM) but ultimately just extends the platforms life
2. its $170, not $200 and comes with $10 free Nintendo points to buy DSi ware.
3. GBA ShmeeBA. You buy a DS console to play DS games.
4. Yea i guess if you miss GH and the 4 other midly interesting plug in games that used that slot
5. Yes, DS Lite is pretty awesome

I read somewhere that Nintendo said that they pushed back the release of their next handheld due to strong sales of the DSi. I can't really prove this but..2. its $170, not $200 and comes with $10 free Nintendo points to buy DSi ware.

2. It's $200 in Canada.
3. Backwards compatibility is always a good feature. A lot of people complained about how the DS didn't play Original Gameboy and Game boy color games.
4. Well there was an internet browser... the GBA slot had potential ok? :P
2. It's $200 in Canada.

get a US one of eBay. Half of them come with free shipping so that knocks a few tens off.
And, honestly, even if the DSi came with a GBA slot people would still be complaining. They'd juust be saying the same things too
"It's the same as the Lite but with more features. Why does it have to cost more then the Lite?"
I wasn't on GS at that time, but were there this many haters for the Lite? Because really, the Lite was the smallest improvement for a Phat. srsly.
I purchased a DSi and am now waiting for the DSiWare to pick up the slack left over from the ommission of the GBA slot. I used to whine about the DSi, but when I packed for college last week I inadvertently tossed out all my GBA games. Now, I have nothing to whine about >_>

fiscope
there is plenty of quality games on there
try Asphalt 4, Real Soccer, Mighty Flip Champs, Mario vs DK, any of the many ArtStyle games. All good
I don't hate the DSi. Its like a lot of others are saying, its not enough to warrant an upgrade. Yet. I have a hinge cracked DS Lite and I don't want to spend almost $200 for a system that does essentially what I already do with my DS Lite. Eventually my Lite will break (a hinge fix costs $75 and I'd rather save that for a DSi) and I will buy a DSi. Til then I'm stickin with old Hingey :)
