I am trying to decide wheater or not to get a Wii. I am turned away from the odd controlls and the lack of HD and DVD playability however, there are a few games that may lead to a purchase. (Many exclusive Resident Evil titles) What is so great about the Wii though?

We can give you a number of reasons to buy a Wii but it will depend on you whether it appeals to you or not. It's your money, your rules. If you would like one, go ahead and get one but if you think you don't really need one now, don't. Research on what the Wii offers and see if it will satisfy you, wouldn't want to have a future "I bought a Wii and it sucks!" thread from you ;)

The Wii appeals to me because it is small and compact and because the "best" version of Resident 4 is on the Wii not to mention Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and the upcomming Darkside chronicles and also the ports of both the Resident Evil remake and Resident Evil 0 are on their way. To me this is a huge selling point since I am a HUGE Resident Evil fan. But after Resident Evil what is there? I mean I haven't had a nintendo system since Gamecube so with Wii I don't really know what to expect.

Didn't you make a topic about this already? Or at least somebody else made a topic about these RE games. Its very simple for any console you want if it has games that you want to play and that means at least 10, then get it. Very simple, also you say since the GC like that was a long time ago lol, it was the last console.

I could ask you Why SHOULDN'T you buy a Wii. Seriously, if you (AND MANY OTHERS) have to ask us (and can't obviously see for yourself) why you should buy a Wii then I personally don't think you don't need one as I think you (And Others) wouldn't be satisfied even if you got one.

in my opinion, if you are asking other people to convince you to buy this product, the chances are that you are not entirely fond of the machine, therefore it is most likely that you will not be completely satisfied with your purchase.

Let's see, graphics don't make the game, they're only part of it. Wii games are generally made to be fun, not graphics fests. You want art, go to a museum. The controls are easy to get used to since you're not sitting in one place, you're moving, depending on the game, to what you see. So you're getting a little exercise.

If you want to watch DVDs, get a DVD player if you can, saves the console getting damaged. Games are for fun, not for placing on a pedastal and admiring from a distance. The Wii is just a slightly updated Gamecube with a different control layout, it's thinner, looks great, has some fun games like Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Kart, amongst others, and can sometimes link with the DS.

So what's more important? The fancy nonsense with graphics or the good old fashioned fun that games should be? It's a games console, not a priceless work of art.

Agree.

As you don't want the system for Wii-specific games, or for the control mechanism ... and HD graphics are a factor - I wouldn't get one.

IMO, I'm guessing that the genres of games you like are really best suited for other consoles, unless the control style of the Wii really draws you. If you were getting Mario Kart, or Galaxy, or PES soccer, or Boom Blox, or other games that are either Nintendo exclusives or use the Wiimote to provide a new type of control ... then I'd go for it.

But unless you've played RE on the Wii and think it the greatest thing ever ... I wouldn't get a console just for a couple games if there's no real interest in other titles on the system. [Apply to any system]

You could rent the Wii from a rental store first and rent some games you think look interesting.

Also, the Wii Virtual Console has a growing library of games from past Nintendo consoles (and others) that you might have wanted to play but never had a chance to.

The bottom line is what type of games you like? if you like weird games then wario ware smooth moves would be a good game for you. If you like rpg's then zelda. If you like fighting then super smash bros. I think you should get a wii depending on what type of games you like.

:!:Shhhhhhhh, don't say that, there is bound to be a troll or two that will come in and tell you that you those games should never be made, and how you don't deserve to play them because you didn't support them all the time and all this crying a river over remakes and ports:!: I'm not kidding either, this is the board people where people think the members are the nicest, but there are those that will beat you up for asking such a question.

Lack of DVD playability? Don't you already have a dvd player or a 360/PS3 that can play dvd's? Or is this your first game console? If this is your first game console, I've heard that most people like purchasing a 360 or PS3 first then buying a Wii later on.

The system isn't basicly all for two generes and has a giant variety of games, the online is free, you can get tons of past games from older systems, a lot of games if you don't want motion control you can use the gamecube controller or the classic controller, it has many extra channels you can download, you can edit the pictures on your sd card to the wii, etc.

The wii has a ton of great games on it the majority are crap but there are 30 games worth checknig out (I regret buying my other 70 and im going to sell them for other console games but....its a fun system. The bad faluths about the wii is that it has the crappiest online it has horrible 3rd part support and has no good compaines really (Except for capcom and SEGA) that are making pretty good games for them 360 and PS3, well PS3 has SCEA which is a big plus for them and 360 has great FPS games in other words if you ant a good shooter system dont get it, if you want a good party/platformer/puzzle/gighting/action system your covered :).
