I cant get online wirelessly so if I buy the connector will I be able to get online for sure?

Yes. You just need to have a Windows XP and at least a DSL connection.

As far as I know, there's no way to use it with a MAC without the port.

The Nintendo Wifi Adaptor doesn't work with Macs. However, there are lots of wireless routers available that are compatible with boths Macs and the DS. I bring this up because the Mac-made wireless router called the airport express can be expensive, and there are other options. I use a 2Wire wireless gateway, and after a small amount of fooling around, I got it to work with both.
